About the adventure

In the shadow of the formidable Droskar's Crag, an ancient dwarven monastery stands, its halls echoing with silence. But within its depths, malevolence awakens. Merlokrep, the Dragon King of the Truescale Kobolds, grapples with instability in his rule. As misfortunes plague the tribe, both of his own doing and due to external forces, Merlokrep concocts a dire scheme. To rejuvenate his tribe's waning fate, he abducts five innocent children from the nearby town of Falcon's Hollow, intending to use them for a dark and unholy purpose. Falcon’s Hollow stirs with anxiety and fear. The parents of the abducted children, their hearts weighed down with despair, offer what little they have as a reward for their children's safe return. Yet, there are hushed rumors that the town's leadership, more concerned with politics and wealth than the lives of the marginalized, remains unmoved by the tragedy. These children, from the town's less fortunate sectors, seemingly hold little value in the eyes of the town's elite. While many adventurers venture to Falcon's Hollow driven by their own agendas and personal quests, the dire circumstances surrounding the missing children become impossible to ignore. Inside the dimly lit local tavern, as tankards clink and hushed conversations permeate the air, chance or perhaps fate brings these individual souls together. Over shared drinks and tales of their own reasons for being in town, a bond begins to form among them. Recognizing the unique skills and strengths each brings to the table, they come to a collective decision: they will unite their efforts, not just for personal gain, but to take on the noble and urgent quest of rescuing the abducted children. It's in this moment, with a shared purpose, that a group of strangers becomes a team, poised to face the lurking dangers of Darkmoon Vale.

How to prepare

To participate in this game, you will need a computer with either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox installed. You don't need a webcam, but you will need a microphone and headphones (or speakers) to hear other players and the Gamemaster. We'll be using Discord for voice and text chat during our sessions so you will need to create a Discord account and join our server before our first session (server details will be provided after you have signed up). This will allow us to communicate with each other and stay connected throughout the game. FoundryVTT will be hosted on the Forge, which is a popular hosting service for virtual tabletops. Players don't need to install any special software, as they can access FoundryVTT directly through their web browser but you will need to create a Forge account. Dice rolling will also be done within FoundryVTT. The platform has a built-in dice roller that players can use to roll all the dice they need during the game. Overall, I want to make sure that all players feel comfortable and prepared before we start our game. If anyone has any questions or concerns about how to prepare, I encourage them to reach out to me ahead of time so that we can address them together.

What I provide

As the Game Master, I have been playing TTRPGs for sixteen years and running games for nine years. I'm excited to bring my experience and knowledge to our game and create an immersive and engaging world for all players. All the necessary rulebooks and resources for the game will be available within FoundryVTT in their digital format. This will allow players to easily access any information they need during the game without the need for physical books. After session 0, I'll provide each player with a character portrait as a visual representation of their character. This will help players visualise their characters and bring them to life in the game. During the game, I'll be using FoundryVTT to provide maps and other visual aids. This will allow us to easily share and interact with visual elements during the game without the need for physical copies. Overall, my goal as the game master is to create a fun, engaging, and immersive experience for all players. I'll be there to support and guide everyone throughout the game, and I'm always happy to answer any questions or concerns that players may have.

Gameplay details

I agree that there are several important aspects to consider when running a game, beyond the gameplay details mentioned here. Firstly, Session 0s are a crucial part of starting any game. During this session, we will discuss and establish open communication, set expectations, and create a collaborative environment. It is also a great opportunity to discuss any safety tools that will be used at the table, and ensure that everyone is on the same page before we begin. Additionally, open-door policies are important for the well-being of everyone involved in the game. This means that anyone can take a break from the game if they need to, without fear of judgment or negative consequences. Having built-in breaks during the game is also essential for the group to stay focused and process the content. These breaks can be used for bio breaks, conversations, or any other necessities. In our game, I plan to have a 15-minute break halfway through the session. Aftercare is another important consideration after the game ends. I will ensure to stay around for 10 minutes after the game ends for any chats that are needed. This is a good opportunity for players to decompress and talk about their experiences during the game. As the GM, I will make sure to provide clear and concise instructions, as well as opportunities for feedback and questions throughout the game. I will also work to foster a sense of community and teamwork among the players, and ensure that everyone has a chance to contribute to the story and make their character shine. With these elements in place, I believe we can create a dynamic and engaging game experience that everyone will enjoy, and that fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

How will character creation work

Character creation is something we'll do together during our session 0. We'll be using FoundryVTT, which is a fantastic virtual tabletop platform that makes creating and managing characters a breeze. During session 0, we'll go through the process of creating characters step by step. I'll be there to guide you through each stage and answer any questions you might have. We'll work together to create characters that are interesting, unique, and well-suited to the adventure we'll be embarking on. We'll determine which classes and races are available and decide on the characters' backstories and motivations. We'll choose equipment, spells, and abilities that make sense for the characters' goals and personalities, and we'll make sure that everyone has a clear understanding of how their character works. By doing character creation together during our session 0, we can make sure that everyone is on the same page and ready to dive into the adventure. And by using FoundryVTT, we can do it all in a way that's efficient and streamlined, without sacrificing any of the fun or creativity.
