Dungeons & Dragons 5e

About the adventure

This is a Homebrew Open world setting. It is set on a new colony that was only established 16 years ago. In colony settlements people are afraid, a family has been found without faces. Are there faeries amongst them? In the Causavista Wetlands river barges cross the wide rivers, the thick tree canopies make it seem like it is night. The insects insist on the ferryman, their buzzing and biting never ending. The howls from the swamps sound almost human. In the Grim Highlands, slavers scour looking for races not yet protected by the laws of the empire. The red dragon demands to the region below. It wants more miners, people are being conscripted to mine, less they invoke its wrath. To the west a mercenary lies face down on the ground. The wet mulch and bugs of the jungle press against his mask. Though he wears the face of a devil he is afraid. He has laid on the ground for hours waiting out a hidden figure. He stands carefully only for an arrow to meet his eye. He falls on his knees, dead, in a land that wants to devour him. The campaign is focused on exploration and factions. The campaign is player motivated. Meaning you will drive the plot of the campaign. The players will start off as a mercenary company. What they want is up to the players. Whether that be fortune, magic, or wanderlust. The players will start off with a small amount of knowledge about the culture of this campaign. A facet of the campaign is learning how to navigate the strange political forces and religious ways of this world. I use a lot of the optional rules found in the DMG to make the world deadlier and combat more decisive. This applies to players and NPCs alike. The world itself draws from a variety of sources. It is inspired by Mediterranean cultures as well as ancient Greek and Mesopotamia/Japanese/Chinese. As well as a spoonful of horror movies. Technology wise we are looking about 16th century technology rather than the standard medieval we usually see. There is a tinge of high fantasy on the outer edges of the setting. This world was created to feel real and living, it will change in part by player actions but also by the forces that influence it. I try to make the people of this world be motivated by real life motivations like geopolitics and division of resources rather than plots to take over the world because they need all the power. How to prepare

I suppose all you will need is a mic and discord as that is where we will communicate. I will also post additional campaign info there. You can read the campaign info before hand to get a better sense of the world. You also need a roll20 account.

What I provide

I make my own maps using various tools. I don't actually own any of the books on roll20. I have them in real life and don't want to pay for them again as they are pricey. I do have a pro account and have all the bells and whistles. Like API scripts, music, and dynamic lighting etc.

Gameplay details

During session 0 we will go over some more in-depth lore about the world as well as create characters, I plan to start at 3rd level as I have found that is the best level to start on. A fair warning, I do use a lot of the optional rules in the DMG. Things like gritty rest rules where a short rest is one day and long rest is 7 days. I will go over those as well. All of these new rules are meant to add a lethality to the world. This does go both ways as you will find out. I will explain the Lines and Veils to those that do not know about it. I will also message people about what things we should black curtain/ not touch. I also use the dynamic lighting maps on roll20 so if you are into that get ready to play dollhouse. The world is player motivated so make sure to provide solid motivations to your character to get them moving. You can of course talk to me about those motivations if you can think of any. There is no large story arch. You are just folks. Heroic folks but not driven by a prophecy to kill an ancient evil or anything like that. We will do talk over discord, I usually only do voice chat. The game is played over roll20 so have a free roll20 account ready.
