About the adventure

A powerful bearded devil is creating infernal snowtoys to trick children into signing away their immortal souls, when a group of brave adventurers wanders into the snowstorm surrounding his diabolical gift factory. Guided by a red-nosed imp who's escaped the evil devil's clutches, the adventurers must fight a frost worm, brave devious traps, defeat frosty devils, and go toe-to-toe with the powerful Nichozal, Zariel's Claws, to save the children's souls, the red-nosed imp, and – most importantly – themselves! This adventure is designed for use with Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus and features many references to Christmas. It features challenges and encounters tailored to a party of four 8th-level adventurers, but can be adapted based on group size. Depending on our pace, the adventure should take between 3 to 6 hours to complete. My style of DMing is quite similar to Matt Mercer's delivery: Silly voices, descriptive narration in and out of combat, and atmospheric music.

How to prepare

A mic, headphones, and decent connection are required; rules can be explained as we play and gone over as we create characters prior to game day. I have access to Syrinscape, a powerful online soundboard that everyone can connect to and prefer using it to deliver atmospheric music and sounds, however it does require everyone to download an additional program to run it (albeit small). If anyone feels uncomfortable with that I can use Roll20's sound system instead - it's just not as robust.

What I provide

Virtual compedium and digital pictures that accurately represent the one shot we will be playing.

Gameplay details

This is a holiday one shot; a homebrew adventure designed around the settings and themes of Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. On average, you can expect about a 50/50 ratio of combat and roleplay. As we are playing on Roll20 you can expect the combat to often be tactical, allowing each of you to carefully plot your next turn.

How will character creation work

Once confirmed to play, I will invite you to roll20. We will then set a time to go over the functions of how to make a character on that platform. From there it's expected that you will make your character prior to the session (you can log in freely and work on it once invited). Alternatively, I will have multiple pre-gen characters you may use at your discretion.

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Medium
  • Roleplay: Medium
  • Puzzles: Low
  • Experience Level: Beginner
