About the adventure

*Please Contact me with questions through my profile or through Facebook (see profile)! I will be available to help you craft a character once you sign up for the campaign, and we will ideally have character details finalized for Session 0.* The setting is a homebrew location called Bel'Mithra within a modified Elemental Chaos, where life has adapted to an elemental landscape under the rule of a benevolent king and a church seeking to unite disparate people. However, in a land where the Light shines brightly, Darkness surely stirs to meet it. The game is meant to be be hosted as a long-running campaign, where players take on the role of a party whose humble beginnings lead them into a deeper and deeper spiral into the fate of the entire plane. The path to victory is a difficult and foggy road however, and ghosts of Bel'Mithra's past may rise to haunt the party as they strive to save the plane. This campaign features an open ended pursuit of resolutions, allowing players to find their own solutions to the problems facing the world. However, the social structures within the world will continue to react and adjust their own courses as the game goes on, providing positive and negative consequences for player actions and decisions. However, there is plenty of time for levity and chaos in the midst of a more serious story. Because of the general theme being to save the world, in one form or another, evil alignments are not advised.

How to prepare

Characters should be created and approved before session 0 so that play can begin smoothly. If players need assistance creating a character, want to review the setting, or run strange character concepts by the DM before attempting to create the character, you can contact me and I will be happy to provide assistance. You should also make sure to have a discord account and a roll20 account for use during play. Links for the specific games will be sent out prior to play. A short document will also be linked, relating to available house rules for the campaign and a general blurb about setting information beyond what is listed here.

What I provide

I will be creating custom maps for encounters, producing digital assets for players, and doing general work to make the game more enjoyable for a given group.

Gameplay details

The game is open to all experience levels; accommodations and changes can be made to better suit parties with different levels of experience with rpgs. Much of the campaign will revolve around completing successive goals and missions, which will change in order or importance based on player actions. What this means in practice is that there will be "quests" taken on by the party that progressively reveal more of the rising danger in Bel'Mithra. How the party chooses to use this information, and what route they choose to use to combat the danger will be in their hands. There are plenty of areas within Bel'Mithra that are still largely unmapped, hiding ruins, structures, strange magical fonts, and more. Exploration is encouraged, and travel has its dangers even on the main roads.

How will character creation work

Characters will be given a session 0 (individual session) to acclimate them to the world of Bel'Mithra, and give them a backstory within the Octovarian Configuration. It is the player's responsibility to communicate a good time to have this individual session to the DM. Characters can be made using any official source material published by Wizards of the Coast, including Unearthed Arcana. Third Party Supplements released by reputable publishers (Kobold Press, Hitpoint Press, etc.) can be discussed on a case-by-case basis. The Ancestry and Culture supplement is also available on-request to accommodate players wanting characters that defy racial or cultural norms, or that come from mixed cultural backgrounds. Characters will start out at level 1, using the Dungeon Dudes' stat array: 17, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8. Rolling for stats is also acceptable as long as it is done where the GM is able to see the rolls (roll20, discord, ect). You will have the standard starting equipment listed by class and background, and can purchase any additional items with your starting gold.
