About the adventure

Step 1: Create A Character! Step 2: Visit an Exotic Location! Step 3: Make Friends! Step 4: Beat 'Em Up! ---------- Battle Royale: Rumble In the Jungle is a Dungeons & Dragons 5E Player-versus-Player (PvP) gladiatorial one-shot that takes place on an interactive tableau of battle controlled by a unbiased Arena Master (i.e. dungeon master) who is responsible for coordinating and adjudicating character creation and combat. Create your own character or choose from over a dozen pre-generated ones! This event uses a custom PvP rules supplement (access provided after signup) that implements special rules carefully designed to mitigate the shortcomings of a traditional D&D player-vs-player arena, which is a disparity of player activity and enjoyment due to an early death or lengthy incapacitation. First, character death does not end your participation because 'Last One Standing' is not a victory condition. Though defeat is not without consequences, defeated characters do return to the arena and rejoin the competition! Second, because few things are as loathsome in gaming as repeatedly losing your turn, diminishing returns are applied to abilities that incapacitate a character or otherwise deny a player the opportunity to _attempt_ meaningful action on their turn. In short, this Battle Royale's goal is to promote an environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to actively showcase their strategic incompetence! Rumble in the Jungle: Come for the glory... stay for the revenge! Feel free to message me with any questions. Hope to hear from you soon!

How to prepare

Players will need: • To complete a digital New Player Review: This is a questionnaire that I will provide upon your joining, which you can complete on your own time prior to the tournament. It reviews game conduct expectations and provides you an opportunity to communicate any sensitive conduct Lines and Veils you may have. This replaces the scheduled, 'face-to-face' Session 0 that is common for campaigns, but is not always feasible for one-shot adventures. • A Discord account. • A microphone with a minimal amount of disruptive background noise and the ability to clearly communicate via Discord voice chat. • A basic DnD Beyond Account. (Paid Subscription Account Not Required) • To create (or select) a character for the encounter, following character generation guidelines that will be provided. • A basic Roll20 Account. (Paid Subscription Account Not Required) • A laptop, PC or other device capable of running the Roll20 web application. • Kindness, a sense of humor and the ability to play well with others... while beating them up. • A willingness to lose. Only one person can win and odds are it won't be you!

What I provide

• Open-Door communication via Discord to review questions you may have prior to the one-shot event. • A Master Tier DnD Beyond Subscription that provides players with equitable access to many character-creation options permitted within the event guidelines. • A Roll20 Virtual Tabletop experience that includes: ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ • Custom encounter maps. ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎• Environmental music and ambience. • A detailed, unique player-versus-player tournament rules supplement. • A promise to be an unbiased, impartial and consistent adjudicator of rules so that only the dice and your own bad decisions are to blame for your inevitable defeat. • A dynamic, interactive and neutral combat arena that adds excitement and suspense to the tournament environment.

Gameplay details

SENSITIVE CONTENT / SUBJECT MATTER This one-shot is pure tabletop combat and is likely to contain descriptions or themes related to battle and combat, including specific and unpredictable ways in which characters may facilitate their efforts to kill one-another. I do not use or allow sexual assault, abuse of children or torture as narrative content. Due to the improvisational nature of roleplay, however, I am uncomfortable claiming to have provided an exhaustive list of content warnings for what descriptions might occur. Note, however, that there is a line between irreverence and obscenity; between humor and vulgarity. Irreverent humor is acceptable, obscene vulgarity is not. Everyone is encouraged to remain cognizant of those distinctions, and anyone engaging in behavior that is perceived to be excessively obscene or vulgar will be expected to reign in that behavior when informed of it. SAFETY TOOLS Prior to the adventure, players will have the opportunity to request that highly sensitive subject matter be added to a list of Lines and Veils, and I will communicate those topics to all participants so that we can steer clear of them.

How will character creation work

There are two character creation options for this event, both of which are indicated below. Details regarding the unique character-creation rules featured in this event are included in the Battle Royale event supplement, to which you will gain access after signing up. This supplement is an indispensable aid and it is expected that you will review it in full prior to creating a custom character. Method 1: Create-Your-Own Character in DnD Beyond: The event supplement will include detailed character creation guidelines, but you can anticipate that most officially-published Dungeons & Dragons 5e content is permitted for standard 5e Rules-As-Written character creation. Any exceptions or changes will be clearly indicated in the event supplement. You will have significant access to basic equipment and will also have the opportunity to select magical items and/or consumables for your character. Homebrew character content is not permitted, except those created specifically for this event and are equitably available to all participants. To ensure that players have ample time to review the unique rules contained with this event's PvP supplement and that the arena master has ample opportunity to review, create-your-own characters must be submitted within 24 prior to the event start time. Players joining within 24 hours of the event are asked to use Character Creation Method 2. Method 2: Select a Pre-Generated Character. Over one-dozen single-class characters created specifically for this event will be available to all players. A full summary of the character creator's intended combat strategy will accompany your selected pre-generated character. This method of character creation is required of those signing up within 24 hours of the event, but is also recommended for beginners or anyone who just wants to roll dice without the hassle of creating a one-shot character.

Players can expect

  • Roleplay: Low
  • Puzzles: Low
