About the adventure
Welcome to the Afterlife Casino—a glamorous, hell-themed den of games, secrets, and watchful security. The Golden Vault has recruited your motley crew to settle an old betrayal. You will case the casino, gather what you need, devise a plan, and attempt the score before time runs out. This is a four-hour, mission-focused level 2 D&D 5e (2014) one-shot for up to six players. Your characters receive cinematic dossier introductions before meeting the client for a guided mission briefing. From the planning phase onward—and especially once you enter the casino—the route is yours. Bluff, gamble, investigate, sneak, create a distraction, fight, or invent something unexpected. The objective is fixed, but your approach and the outcome are not. The heist can succeed or fail. This adventure is for players who enjoy: Heavy Roleplay, sharing the spotlight, character moments, teamwork, investigation, creative problem-solving, and plans that may need to change when something goes wrong. New and experienced players are welcome. The adventure stands alone, but characters may reunite for future Golden Vault one-shots alongside new allies.

About me
Hi! I’m Josh, the creator of Questmasters. I’ve spent years telling stories through tabletop roleplaying, podcasting, streaming, voice performance, and audio production. I was the voice of Captain Cristo Cruz and Bovin Hoofmyer on the AllD20 podcast, which grew to around 40,000 followers on instagram. I also streamed on Twitch as Count Joshula and have worked as a professional Dungeon Master with Camp Dragononline. Why Questmasters? Because I believe the players are the real storytellers. A Game Master can create the world, portray its people, and place meaningful choices before the party—but the story becomes real through what the players decide to do. My job is to prepare an immersive, responsive world that remembers those decisions and gives every character the opportunity to change it. I want you to leave the table remembering not only what happened, but what your character chose, risked, and became.

Creating your character
Characters are created before the session in D&D Beyond using the D&D 5e 2014 rules and begin at level 3. Players create their own characters After booking, you will receive a D&D Beyond campaign link and an illustrated Start Here guide showing the approved sourcebooks and exact character-builder settings. Please use only the options identified in that guide. New players may request step-by-step help. Create a character who is willing to accept a dangerous heist, cooperate with a motley crew, and pursue the assigned objective. Consider creating characters suited to undertaking heists. Combat prowess is less important when sneaking through a guarded complex, for example, whereas stealth, skill with locks, social skills, clever problem-solving, and versatile character abilities will shine. You will also submit a brief scene demonstrating something your character is especially good at. I will use that scene for their cinematic Golden Vault dossier introduction and to help prepare opportunities suited to the party. Please send me your completed character-sheet link before the game so I can review it.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the game: 1. Complete the short game-specific onboarding form. 2. Join the Questmasters Discord and the private category for this game. 3. Join the supplied D&D Beyond campaign. 4. Create and submit your character. 5. Submit your short dossier-introduction scene. 6. Open the supplied Foundry link before game day to confirm that it loads correctly. You will need a computer, reliable internet connection, microphone, and headphones. Keep D&D Beyond and Foundry accessible during play. Two monitors—or a computer plus a phone or tablet—are recommended, but one computer using separate tabs or split-screen works. Phone-only play is not supported. D&D Beyond is used for your character sheet and rolls. Foundry is the shared visual table. You are not expected to learn its character sheet, targeting, health, initiative, or condition controls; I handle those for you. Please use headphones or noise suppression and mute your microphone while chewing or handling noisy food packaging.
What Questmasters brings to the table
I will provide an organized, cinematic adventure featuring visual-novel-style scenes, character art, maps, tokens, ambient sound, distinctive NPC performances, and an individual dossier introduction for every character. I review the party before play and prepare opportunities for different characters to contribute through roleplay, investigation, planning, social interaction, magic, stealth, or combat. Challenges have multiple possible approaches, and critical information will not depend entirely on one character, class, or successful roll. You can expect clear objectives, meaningful consequences, consistent rulings, helpful reminders, and room for plans I never anticipated. I will operate Foundry’s technical controls so you can concentrate on describing your actions, making decisions, and playing your character. I will also provide an illustrated Start Here guide, character-creation instructions, game-specific content warnings, connection links, and technical assistance before the session.
Homebrew rules
This game uses the D&D 5e 2014 rules without major homebrew changes. Creative actions and unusual approaches are welcome, but they will be resolved through the existing rules or a clearly explained table ruling. If a rules question cannot be answered quickly, I will make a temporary ruling so play can continue, review the rule afterward, and apply the clarification consistently. Any intentional house rules will be disclosed before the game rather than introduced as a surprise.

How Questmasters creates a safe table
This game has a mature animated-fantasy tone similar to The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein. Potential content includes: fantasy violence hellish and undead imagery gambling alcohol criminal activity adult humor strong language Fantasy Prejudice and possible character death. Mature does not mean unrestricted. Game-specific content warnings are provided before play. The private onboarding form allows players to identify hard limits, subjects that should remain offscreen, and themes they would like handled carefully. You may also message me privately. Boundaries can be added or changed at any time without explanation. During play, anyone may say or type “Pause” or “X,” either publicly or in a private message. The scene will be stopped, skipped, reframed, or faded to black without requiring anyone to justify their discomfort. Players are always free to step away and return when ready. Everyone is expected to respect personal boundaries, pronouns, and each other’s opportunity to participate. Harassment, discrimination, deliberate boundary-pushing, and using “it’s what my character would do” to excuse harmful table behavior are not permitted.
