About the adventure

Greetings, brave and intrepid adventurers! Whether this is your first time playing DnD or you're an experienced dungeon master, all are welcome. My table is an inclusive space for everyone, regardless of your identity, familiarity with Dungeons and Dragons, these specific modules, or tabletop roleplaying games in general. If you've never even rolled dice before, this is a great place to learn and explore what makes DnD fun! For those who have played either LMoP or DoIP, you get to experience the Starter Set and Essentials Kit like never before in a hybrid starter campaign that transitions into a trilogy of mid to upper level adventure modules. Create a brand new adventurer whose story begins with a simple delivery job that takes a sharp turn into proper hero business. Become the Heroes of Phandalin and rise to greater heights as you fight bandits, cults, and dragons. Face off against the champions of evil, uncover their schemes, and stop them before it's too late! --- The Lost Dragons of Phandelver reimagines The Lost Mine of Phandelver and The Dragon of Icespire Peak as a single adventure for 5th edition DnD (2014) ranging from levels 1-7. This prepares the party to begin the Beyond the Dragon of Icespire Peak trilogy and continue their story in three more published adventures: Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, and Divine Contention. In total, you can expect to see your hero go from a level 1 novice to an experienced and battle hardened 13th level adventurer by the end of the campaign. This campaign is full of all your fantasy adventure classics: - exciting battles with iconic monsters - rustic towns in need of rescue - cults of evil gods in need of stopping - dragons to deal with, steal from, or slay - explore and travel across a vibrant and lived-in world - see your actions and ideals shape the world around you - discover long lost ruins full of ancient treasures and forgotten dangers - save the land and leave your mark as the greatest heroes of your time

About me

Musician, Martial Artist, and Teacher by day, GM of 9 years by Game Time. I'm currently an English teacher based in South Korea, but I hail from Southern Ontario, Canada. I'm an enthusiast of all things fantasy, space opera, and mil-sim or sci-fi, spending way too many nights deep diving on the lore of my most recent hyperfixation. I'm also an openly queer male and my tables are likewise inclusive. My Experience: I've run several one shots, play by post servers, some brief adventures and a few multi-year-long campaigns. My bread and butter is low fantasy, but I'm always looking to learn new systems and dip my toes into other genres like post-apocalyptic and historical fiction. If you join one of my games, expect the following: - Adventures written with your goals in mind - Expansive worlds with inclusive and diverse casts - Settings where you can have a say in the lore and details - Flexibility on rulings and unorthodox problem solving - Resources to familiarize yourself with important information - Zero use of generative AI - A no tolerance policy for bigotry or abuse towards anyone at the table

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be assembling our character sheets in FoundryVTT as part of Session 0, but you are welcome to have a pitch prepared in advance. To make your adventurer, you will build a 1st level character using the following guidelines: - Character stats will be determined via Point Buy - Your adventurer begins with one starting feat - Choose a humanoid and non-monstrous ancestry from the PHB 2014, MToF, MPMotM, or FToD - Choose any background from the PHB 2014 or SCAG - Choose any class/subclass from the PHB 2014, SCAG, XGTE, or TCoE, with the exceptions of Clockwork Soul and Aberrant Mind Sorcerers and the Twilight and Peace Clerics

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a working microphone, an active Discord account, and a FoundryVTT account.

What TheLoreWriterGM brings to the table

My games are Rules as Written by default, but I embrace the Rule of Cool when strict application of the mechanics would get in the way of a scene's flow and tone. I also employ plenty of homebrew in magic items, special boons, or quality of life house rules. All NPCs are voice acted to the best of my ability. Some of these characters will have accompanying music to go with them, and many locations will have set specific themes for ambient or dramatic soundtracks. Combat will use a mix of theater of the mind and battlemaps, depending on the importance of the fight and the complexity of the environment. I love to include interactive elements and secondary objectives so tactically minded players can use their characters and surroundings to their fullest.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a healing potion can be done as an action to heal the flat maximum value or as a bonus action to roll and heal like normal. Sorcerers cast levelled spells using spell points instead of slots. Their sorcery points are added to their spell point pool, which are also used for metamagics and other subclass features. Full details on Spell Points found here: https://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spell-points

Safety

How TheLoreWriterGM creates a safe table

Players will be sent an RPG Consent Checklist upon joining the game, which will be filled out before or during Session 0. Breaks are provided once per session at minimum, but will be used as needed to wind down after intense scenes. Debriefing and Aftercare will be left open and judgement free for any players who would like to share their thoughts or feelings about the session, and check-ins will be made between sessions to touch base on comfort and enjoyment of the game.
