About the adventure
Something fishy is going on in Innsmouth... Welcome to a decaying seaside town where outsiders are watched, rumours travel quickly, and strange figures have been seen moving along the shore after dark. Beneath Innsmouth’s crumbling streets and salt-stained buildings lie old feuds, missing people, whispered rituals, and secrets that have remained hidden for far too long. In this investigative Call of Cthulhu campaign, you’ll explore Innsmouth, question its residents, follow unsettling leads, uncover forgotten histories, and slowly piece together what is really happening in the town. Expect a strong focus on roleplay, investigation, atmosphere, exploration, and creeping horror, with danger potentially behind every corner. This game is ideal for players who enjoy mystery, slow-burn tension, character-driven storytelling, and horror where knowledge can be as dangerous as any monster. New players are welcome, and no previous experience with Call of Cthulhu is required. Just bring an investigator, a curious mind, and the willingness to ask questions that may have been better left unanswered.

About me
Greetings, Adventurer! I’m a GM who loves games built around strong characters, meaningful choices, atmosphere, and stories that develop naturally from what the players decide to do. My favourite genres are fantasy, horror, and science fiction, especially settings that feel lived-in, dangerous, and morally complicated. My influences range from Game of Thrones, Baldur’s Gate, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, to True Detective, Alien and Joe Abercrombie. I enjoy balancing roleplay, exploration, investigation and action while giving players plenty of freedom in how they approach problems. Whether you’re exploring a dangerous wilderness, investigating something deeply unsettling, planning a desperate criminal score, or travelling between distant worlds, I want your choices to have real consequences and help shape the direction of the story. I currently run Dungeons & Dragons 5e/5.5e, Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition, Delta Green, Blades in the Dark, and Traveller.

Creating your character
Characters will be created before the campaign begins, with support available for anyone new to Call of Cthulhu. Investigators should be outsiders to Innsmouth, but they may have a personal, professional, or family connection to the town. Before the campaign starts, we’ll discuss each character’s motivation for travelling to Innsmouth and work together to give them a natural reason to become involved in the investigation. Character creation will use the standard Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition rules, with occupations and skills suited to a 1920s investigative horror campaign. Players are welcome to create their own investigator, and pre-generated characters can also be provided if preferred. Session 0 will be used to introduce the group, establish character connections, go over safety tools and campaign expectations, and make any final adjustments before the mystery begins.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should be ready to join the game through Discord for voice chat and Roll20 for the virtual tabletop. Links to both will be provided before the campaign begins. Before Session 0, please: - Create a free Discord account and join my Discord server. - Create a free Roll20 account and join the campaign using the invite link provided. - Have a working microphone and headphones, plus a stable internet connection. - Read through the campaign welcome information and any safety materials provided. - Come with either a rough investigator concept or simply an idea of the kind of character you would like to play. I’m happy to help with character creation. - Think about why your investigator might travel to Innsmouth. They won’t be locals, but they may have a personal, professional, academic, family, or other connection to the town. No previous experience with Call of Cthulhu or Roll20 is required.
What Euan brings to the table
I provide a story-focused Call of Cthulhu experience built around investigation, atmosphere, character choices, and creeping horror. Expect plenty of roleplay, clue-gathering, exploration, suspicious NPCs, and situations where deciding who to trust can be just as important as surviving a fight with a monster. I use Roll20 for maps, handouts, character sheets, and visual clues, alongside Discord for voice chat. I also use ambient music and sound where it helps build tension and bring locations to life. NPC voices and mannerisms are used to help characters feel distinct, but the focus is always on keeping scenes immersive rather than turning every conversation into a performance. I generally follow the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition rules, but I favour quick, fair rulings over stopping the game to search through a rulebook. Player creativity is encouraged, and if an idea makes sense within the fiction, I’ll try to give it a fair chance of working. Combat in Call of Cthulhu is dangerous and usually best treated as a last resort. Encounters are designed to create tension, difficult choices, and memorable moments rather than simply filling rooms with enemies. Your decisions, investigations, and relationships with the people of Innsmouth will shape how the campaign unfolds.
Homebrew rules
I use the standard Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition rules with only light house rulings. I favour quick, fair decisions over stopping play to search through the rulebook, and I’m happy to reward clever ideas when they make sense within the fiction. Any unusual rulings or changes will be explained clearly before they affect the game. Luck spending is allowed using the standard optional rules, and the focus is always on keeping the investigation moving while preserving the danger and uncertainty that makes Call of Cthulhu work.

How Euan creates a safe table
I use a Session 0 before the campaign begins to make sure everyone is comfortable with the tone, themes, and expectations of the game. We’ll discuss content warnings, character boundaries, group expectations, and any subjects players would prefer to avoid or keep off-screen. Call of Cthulhu can involve disturbing themes, body horror, violence, cult activity, and loss of control, so player comfort always takes priority over preserving a scene exactly as written. If something needs to be skipped, softened, or changed, we’ll do so without requiring anyone to explain why. After particularly intense sessions, I’m also happy to check in with the group and give players space to decompress, discuss the session, or flag anything they’d like handled differently going forward.
