About the adventure
This will be a beginner friendly campaign to both the Dolmenwood campaign setting and game system. The setting is inspired by many fairy-tales and mythos of the British Isles, and has a deep connection with the mythology of Fairy in that part of the world, as well as the traditional concepts of adventure and magic that stem from classic D&D and Lord of the Rings. You will be playing as everyday people from the region who seek their hand at adventure. Along the way you can expect to uncover many conspiracies, explore the wilderness and dungeons, get involved in the plots of various factions, and learn significant lore about the world that would lead a lesser adventurer to insanity. The adventure will be a sandbox hex crawl. What that means is that the direction of the campaign will in large part be driven by the actions of you, the players, with external factors like faction events and random chances complicating matters. There will be an emphasis on exploration and rumors, through which several first and third party adventure scenarios will be woven into the campaign. If you enjoy trying to figure out ways out of complicated situations using your wits and clever thinking, then this is the game for you. If you prefer to only ever resolve issues by beating a target on your sheet and rolling a die, then I would not recommend this campaign. Player ingenuity will be rewarded, and in an ideal game nobody will see the next story beat coming (including me!). Disclaimer: Absolutely no AI tools or LLMs have or will be used for this campaign, which includes notetaking. Therefore it is expected that players will be taking their own notes to reference later on.

About me
I'm an avid old-school gamer, both in TTRPGs as well as Computer RPGs. Started out my TTRPG journey playtesting D&D Next (5e) with some friends and instantly fell in love. I've been GMing for well over 10 years now and have since pivoted through various systems and styles of play, most recently settling on the OSR style as my favored manner of gaming and system. I have experience with D&D 5e, 3.5e, 1e, B/X, Pathfinder 2e, Fate Core, OSE, Shadowdark, and Dolmenwood as a GM, while also playing a handful of other RPGs over the last decade. I enjoy keeping my table fun and engaging and recognize that most of us get into this hobby to have a good time, which is what I tend to encourage. You'll find that I tend to be fairly organized, and will go through great effort to ensure everyone at the table is armed with the tools and resources they need to get playing ASAP, and without hassle. I don't want players to have to deal with a ton of overhead, that way they can focus on actually playIng the game.

Creating your character
Fortunately character creation in Dolmenwood is quick and easy! Therefore we will create characters together during game time and you don't have to prepare in advance. FREE session 0!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You won't need a ton of prep, I will send you a discord invite where all the resources you could possibly need will be present. The game will be primarily played on Foundry VTT, which is entirely browser based so you will need a computer running Windows, Mac, or Linux. Accommodations can be made for mobile only players, though compatibility is not guaranteed.
What Kazi brings to the table
I heavily rely on lighter rules, favoring rulings for what makes sense in the moment. That being said, I'm very likely to favor the Rule of Cool versus sticking to what's written on the book if it makes more sense. Combat will occur fairly often if you're not careful, it can also be quick and brutal. I am not aiming for character deaths, in fact you could go the entire campaign with a single character, but mistakes can most certainly be deadly. I prefer cameras on while playing so we can see facial expressions, but I do limited character voices. You can expect a good variety of soundscapes and dynamic sound effects.
Homebrew rules
The major homebrew mechanic comes in how experience is gained, I replace the traditional Gold for XP with a Feats of Exploration system. This means you're more likely to gain levels from actually playing the game rather than having to haul arbitrary coins back to town. Other than that most other house rules are simple adjustments of the existing rules that I feel provide more fun.

How Kazi creates a safe table
By default the campaign setting has a pretty dark undertone, stemming from the real stories of fairytales from history (AKA not the Disney adaptations of those stories). Being a sandbox adventure it is pretty difficult to foresee what kind of content will be encountered. I have an open door policy on letting me know what kind of content is an absolute no-go, Xs and Os can be sent via a message. I take these red lines very seriously, and wherever possible I am willing to change the campaign material to accommodate that.
