About the adventure
Curse of Strahd takes place in a land of despair and hopelessness, where death lurks around every corner. The party becomes trapped within Barovia, the domain of Strahd von Zarovich, and must travel throughout the cursed land in search of allies, knowledge, and powerful artifacts that may give them a chance to defeat the devil Strahd. The module is known for being a particularly difficult adventure, and I intend to run it in the spirit it was thematically designed for. I want to focus on the story, atmosphere, and themes that make Curse of Strahd what it is.

About me
In November of 2022, I started my first campaign, Curse of Strahd. It was not only my first time DMing but also my first time playing the game (couldn't find any games willing to accept a newbie xD). Since then, D&D has been a regular part of my life, both playing and DMing at least once a week out of pure passion. Over the years, I've tried many different ways of playing the game and exploring different themes—even experimenting with novel concepts like "creative magick," where I encourage players to use the logic of spells to expand their uses beyond what is written in the rule books (within reason, of course).

Creating your character
Character creation will be done at session 0 so the party has a good chance at having a healthy mix of classes. After session 0 I encourage everyone to make a back-up character so no one has to miss out on too much fun if death ever does occur! I allow all material from primary sources to be used, such as Players Handbook and Tasha's Couldran. The way I DM makes the differences between 2014 and 2024 rulesets obsolete so players are free to pick and choose which version they want for whatever they are considering (You can have a 2014 class with 2024 spells for example). For this game I will not be considering 3rd party or homebrew mechanics.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players must have a Discord account and a DNDBeyond.com account. Links to the discord server and campaign on DNDBeyond will be provided once players join on StartPlaying. It is highly preferable to play on a PC or Laptop.
What Kit'Aram brings to the table
I tend to focus on the themes and narrative story when DMing, so I favor a "rule of cool" sort of style as opposed to focusing on every minute implementation of the rules. I will be offering ambient music that players can listen to through the discord streaming feature so players can opt in/out and change the volume as they desire. When it comes to voices, I will try to give everyone a bit of distinction though it will be more akin to an audiobook narrator as opposed to an actual voice actor.

How Kit'Aram creates a safe table
I have a Lines and Veil sheet that I have players fill out and give back to me privately, once I have everyone's responses I will create a version of that document for the whole party to be able to reference without identifying anybody within it. I also like to have a session 0 so we can talk more in-depth about any of the problematic themes and concepts present within this module as well as work on character creation and do a preliminary mini-session to test out those new characters and give the players a peek into how I run things. If anything ever happens that makes anyone uncomfortable mid-game, I encourage them to message me privately on discord or even voice their objection if they are comfortable doing so.
