About the adventure
The Plot: The eccentric and powerful wizard Keraptis stole three legendary, sentient weapons (Blackrazor, Whelm, and Wave) and left poetic, taunting challenges at the crime scenes. Characters are hired to delve into White Plume Mountain—an active volcano—to retrieve them. Design Style: It is celebrated as the quintessential "funhouse dungeon"—a sequence of bizarre, highly memorable, and distinct puzzle-and-combat encounters rather than a realistic, ecological environment. Origin: Schick wrote the adventure as a job application sample for TSR, cobbling together his favorite concepts from years of homebrew dungeon design. Gary Gygax hired him and published it as the second entry in the "S" (Special/Challenge) series, coded as module
