About the adventure

You? In charge of a settlement? We all know you were only hired because the Lord Protector is tired of hearing about “goblin problems”. So kick back and enjoy your reign, help a friend, and maybe crack a goblin skull every once in a while. Easy, right? If only you didn’t have the nagging feeling that something isn’t quite right. Something in the darkness. Something terrible. The townspeople are nice and helpful, but some of them seem... off. This place seems to be a nexus of strange folks looking for strange things, and you're starting to worry they'll actually find something. And I mentioned the goblins, right? What in the world are they up to? You'd almost prefer it if they kept to their normal raids. The best part? Natural resources, though the long history of mining operations isn't exactly documented. The region is filled with dungeons to crawl, and each dark corner is a mystery begging to be investigated. They’ll tickle the back of your mind until the truth is unavoidable. Each cave, each ruin has a history and purpose that you’ll want to learn before… Well, you’ll see. Expect plenty of roleplay, and ample opportunity to have a big impact on the world. I'll weave in your personal quests so that the plot follows your characters more than it follows a script. Every encounter, every conversation is a *little bit* of a puzzle; I drop hints to prepare you for the road ahead.

About me

Heyo players, my name is Dylan. I started off with a few friends and a starter adventure at my kitchen table, and have been running games ever since. I like tea and TTRPGs, I like puzzles and mysteries, and I like writing stories at the table with all of you. Bring all your weirdest ideas to me, and let's see what meaning we can pull from the chaos.

Character creation

Creating your character

🛠️ Tools We will use D&DBeyond’s character creation tool to build our characters during session 0. 1️⃣ Level Characters will begin at level 1. 📚 Classes/Species/Feats Anything available in my campaign on D&DBeyond, or anything you personally own. 🤝 Collaborative Character Creation If you have a character idea, leave the details flexible! When you come to the table, your character will be influenced by the group, and influence the group back in turn. ⏪ Changing Characters Realize you don’t like how your character works? That’s ok, talk to me! We’ll figure something out.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need accounts for Discord and D&DBeyond, and you'll need a microphone and headset for voice communication. I'll use a webcam and I encourage you to as well, but no pressure. Beginner to D&D? Message me if you want help familiarizing yourself with the rules ahead of time, but don't worry, you'll learn as you play. ❓ Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns being prepared for your first game.

What Myrm (Dylan) brings to the table

I’ll make this story your story. Custom maps, dungeons, encounters, puzzles, characters, whatever; I’ll do it if it’s what the game needs. I use voices and music, but my goal is to enhance, not distract. The 5.5e rules are a baseline, but I’ll frequently homebrew depending on what makes the encounter smoother. My goal is to give the game enough structure that you feel the stakes, but flexible enough that we don’t shut down cool ideas. Losses feel fair, victories feel earned.

Homebrew rules

There will be homebrew rules, but we'll talk about them when they come up. The game is a discussion, and we'll make sure decisions feel fair.

Safety

How Myrm (Dylan) creates a safe table

🗓️ Before Session 0, we'll discuss Lines and Veils and brainstorm character ideas. 🔨 During Session 0, we’ll review the Lines and Veils, and collaboratively create our characters so everyone knows what to expect. 🎲 During play we'll use the X card when needed as a catch-all, but players are free to step away from the table if they need, and we'll try to take regular breaks to keep energy up.
