About the adventure

You'll find yourselves mysteriously transported to a dark forest where you'll eventually find yourselves in a nearby town. However, you'll discover that people have been mysteriously disappearing from the town. Do these disappearances have something to do with your sudden appearance in the region? What's causing them? It will be your job to answer these questions. This one session adventure is friendly to those just starting out and more experienced players. You'll be able to interact with unique NPCs and scenarios through the eyes of your character. Prepare to experience gritty combat that'll have you on the edge of your seat. There's no knowing what will happen until the very end, so let's find out together!

About me

Greetings, salutations, and all other forms of saying hello! I'm known as Andrew, Midgard, Waffle God, and many other names I've picked up throughout my life. I've been playing DnD since early 2021 as a player, and a GM. I joined StartPlaying many moons ago to get away from the "forever DM" curse, so I understand what it's like to be on your end of things. My goal is to provide quality online games that'll entertain everyone at the table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created in the DnD Beyond campaign prior to the session. If you wish to use a pre-made character, I have one of every class to choose from. However, I don't mind helping you make your own if that's what you desire. We will be using 2014 5e DnD, starting level will be 3, and we'll be using standard point buy for stats. You may choose a feat to start with, and take the starting gear for your class (change-ups allowed per DM discretion). Characters will have their maximum HP value. Homebrew, partnered, and 2024 content is not allowed without GM approval. Variant human race, custom lineage race, lucky feat, and the silvery barbs spell are banned.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need three free accounts for this adventure. Firstly, you will need a discord account. Discord provides a great platform to hear your voice clearly. Secondly, you will need a DnD Beyond account. This platform, in my opinion, provides the most organized character sheets geared towards new players. Lastly, you will need an account on Roll20. On this website, you will be able to see maps during combat encounters and various images throughout the session.

What Andrew, God of Waffles brings to the table

I like to do voices for my characters, and utilize ambient music to set the atmosphere. My plethora of content on DnD beyond is also available for your usage, and if you have an idea, I may even add it into my game as homebrew. I like to strike a balance in combat where encounters are fun, but still challenging enough to be exciting. Combat will typically occur on a map. That way you will be able to see the whole layout of the battlefield, and have tools to measure distance and area of effect spells.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew rules Improved potion use: using a potion is only a bonus action, but administering a potion to an ally is still an action. Any abilities that make using a potion a bonus action instead make it a free action (limit to one potion drank). Brutal criticals: When you land a critical hit, roll a normal weapon attack and add the weapon's damage dice to the result. Flanking: when an ally is adjacent to (directly across from) an enemy, your melee attacks have a +2 to hit.
