About the adventure
In deep space, on the outer edges of the Patri Empire lays the Sapphic Nebula. The treacherous cosmic tides of the Nebula are almost impossible to navigate, making it a safe haven for those who live there, the Lesbian Space Mermaids. They have here for millennia, being the only species who can navigate the currents safely, and have made the planet Lesbus IV their home. What the rest of the galaxy doesn't know is that deep at the center of the nebula the Eros Crystal, a moon sized gem that helps create all life in the universe. For centuries an elite group of Mermaids, known as The Lesbian Mermaid Space Pirates have fought the Patri, launching raids against vulnerable ships and then retreating back to the safety of the nebula. So far, their efforts have successfully stopped the expansion of the Patri into this part of the galaxy. The Patri never satisfied with the size of their Empire, are rumored to be working on a weapon that can destroy the Nebula, and everything in it. Fearing the loss of their home, and all lifeforms in the galaxy, one crew of Sapphic Buccaneers find themselves to be the only ones who can stop this weapon before it's too late. Will they be able to stop the Patri in time? Well, that's all up to you.

About me
Hi, my name is Willow. I'm a 39 year old trans woman from Michigan. I played my first tabletop RPG game over a decade ago with my now wife, my sister, and my brother in law DMing. I had never played a game with that much player freedom and choice before, and loved the collaboration with the other players. I didn't get involved with a regular game until playing D and D 5E with some coworkers at a previous job a few years ago. My boss let us use the conference room at work, and we would play after my shift on Sundays. Unfortunately, due to some work drama, we had to stop using the conference room and had trouble finding another location. One of my coworkers eventually allowed the use of his house, only with me as the DM now. This unfortunately this didn't really work out. Now I run a game with them and their friends, a group of mostly neurodivergent kids ages 6 to 9. While at times, it can feel a bit like herding cats playing with a group this young, I love seeing just how creative they can be, and how good they are at problem solving. I also like to ask my players what they liked, and would like to see changed, so the game can be even better for them the next session. I can already tell that one if them is going to be a great DM in another 5 years. I am also involved in my local improv and stand up comedy communities, giving me the ability to roleplay on the fly and react quickly to unexpected decisions by my players.

Creating your character
As opposed to creating a character with a race and class, in Thirsty Sword Lesbians we use what are called playbooks. Each playbook has different skills and most importantly, an emotional arc. The playbooks can be found here: https://poweredbylesbians.com/srd/playbooks/ Each player must use a different playbook, so we will choose them during Session 0 when everyone will be together. If you would like to prepare beforehand, you can look through the playbooks and choose a few playbooks that you find interesting, and think about how you could create a backstory for it that fits in with the story. Despite the playbook, every player will still be playing a Lesbian Mermaid Space Pirate.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
For this game, we will be playing theatre of the mind, so the entire game will be played on Discord. When you join the game, a link will be sent with instructions on how to create a character fill out the lines and veils before session 0.
What Willow brings to the table
As the GM, I will guide you through the adventure, helping players with all the rules so they don't need to memorize and entire rulebook before hand. I will also use ambient music in my games as well. I like to do fun voices for my NPCs, who usually wind up being more goofy than serious. If you are looking for a gritty and serious game this won't be the table for you, but if you're just looking for a fun adventure with a few laughs along the way, this is the game for you. Depending on the choices you make this game may focus more on either roleplay or combat. Since this is a beginner game, I will remind you what skills, spells and options you have as you get used to the game. I also encourage my payers to find unique and unconventional solutions to the problems their characters will face, and tend to reward players for creative thinking. At my table, we also embrace The Rule of Cool, which means that if you want to try something cool, but is technically not allowed by the rules, I'm willing to bend the rules to allow your character to have that fun moment. One thing I do ask of my players is that if they want to drink during the session that is fine, but please keep it to a two drink maximum. I would also ask that if you intend to be using some form of cannabis during play, that it be closer to a microdose. I promise to be cannabis and alcohol free during all of my games, so my mind is sharp and able to provide you with the best possible experience. Overall, I want to make sure my players have fun and enjoy themselves. Life is stressful enough.. games shouldn't be.

Safety
How Willow creates a safe table
Safety tools are things that we add to the game to ensure that you and the other players at the table have the most fun possible, by making sure we avoid any material that you might find traumatic or which may elicit an involuntary response. This can include anything from fear of spiders to PTSD from past trauma. For this game we will be using several tools. Before session 0, I will send you a Lines and Veils form to list any things you need completely banned from the game, a line, or things that can be mentioned in the game but actually happen behind the scenes, a veil. The next tool is a Session 0. During this session, all of the players and I will make or finalize your characters, talk about what each player would like out of the game (more roleplaying or more combat, etc...), and go over the Lines and Veils for the game. I not disclose which Lines and Veils came from which player. We will also use X cards during the game. An x card is used by any player at any time during play to denote content that needs to be removed, changed or skipped with no explanation needed. The X can be signaled by holding a drawn X up to your camera, saying X, putting an X in the chat, or making an X with your arms towards your camera. The last safety tool I use in all games is called Stars and Wishes. This occurs after the game when I send each player a direct message asking what they liked about the game, a Star, and what they would have liked to see in the game, a Wish. This helps me to be able to create a better experience in future games should you decide to continue to play at my table.
