About the adventure

Officially, you don't exist. Nobody will ever sing about what you're about to do, and that's exactly how it has to be. A undead wizard-king who has schemed for over a century is finishing a ritual. When it's done, an army of the dead, powered by energy stolen from demons, will sweep across the land. Anyone who refuses to kneel joins the horde. The one ruler who saw it coming tried to warn her peers, and they branded her a traitor for it. So she does what a spymaster does: she hires outsiders who can't be traced back to her. That's you. This is a magical spy thriller, not a dungeon crawl. Expect disguises, secret handoffs, bribes, blackmail, and whispered deals in crowded markets. You'll turn disgruntled soldiers against their masters, win over pirates, and decide which rebel sorcerers can actually be trusted. Then you'll find the hidden tunnel that leads to the lich's lair and face what's waiting at the end of it. The enemy has informants everywhere. Talk too loudly in a tavern, fight in front of witnesses, or skip the disguise, and his agents start hunting you. The story reacts to your mistakes, and so do the people trying to survive it. The game rewards clever teamwork. Scrying, illusions, invisible scouts, and a party that plans a job like a heist crew will take you further than charging in. Combat at these levels is dangerous, but the best fights are the ones you set up before the first sword is drawn. This is a long-form campaign taking characters from level 11 to 20. It's for players who love planning, deception, roleplay, and moral gray areas, and who are comfortable running a high-level character. You don't need to know anything about the world. I'll teach you what your character would know. A few seats are open. Pick a code name and bring a cover story.

About me

Hi, I'm Davi. I'm currently a university student from the UK and an unapologetic fantasy nerd. I started running D&D when I was eleven after falling in love with fantasy worlds where ordinary people could become legends. What began as running games for friends somehow turned into a huge part of my life. Seven years later, I still spend most days thinking about stories, worldbuilding, and the next adventure. Outside of tabletop games, you'll usually find me buried in fantasy novels, sketching out new ideas for settings, or disappearing down some obscure bit of lore that absolutely didn't need three hours of research. I'm also a player whenever I get the chance. I love being on both sides of the screen, and some of my favourite memories come from sitting at someone else's table and getting completely swept up in their world. More than anything, I enjoy meeting people through this hobby. Some of my closest friendships started because a group of strangers decided to roll some dice together. When I'm not studying or running games, I'm usually building something new, whether that's a homebrew system, a setting, a one-shot, or a completely unnecessary spreadsheet that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Character creation

Creating your character

Level 11, built with the 2024 rules. Use 2024 classes, species, and backgrounds, and build on D&D Beyond. Stats can be Standard Array, Rolled up to 3 sets or Point Buy You're not a fresh recruit. These characters should feel like they've lived in this world. Before Session 1 you'll choose your career and what stage of it you're in. That could be a rising talent, a seasoned veteran, or someone who used to be more than they are now. We'll work out how that career connects to Thay, and why Zulkir Thrul wants you. Factions. You can start as a member of a faction if you like, including the Red Wizards of Thay. Membership comes with contacts, obligations, and secrets, so we'll build those in together at Session 0. Non-Thayan characters are welcome: mercenaries, activists, exiles, and travelers who ended up in Eltabbar at the wrong (or right) time. Whatever you play, give them a reason to hate what Szass Tam is doing. We'll finalize characters and pick code names together in Session 0.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Create a free D&D Beyond account and build your level 11 character there. Share it with me through the campaign link. Join our Discord server. Link sent after booking. This is where we handle scheduling, notes, and in-character chatter. Create a free Foundry VTT account if needed. I'll send the game link. Do a quick test run of the connection before Session 1. Read the Session 0 packet and fill out the safety questionnaire. Come with a rough character concept, a career, and a code name idea. Don't stress if it isn't polished. We'll finish it together.

What Davi brings to the table

-Think Casino Royale tension, Mission: Impossible set pieces, and the paranoia of The Bourne Identity. I run this campaign like a film, not a dungeon crawl. -Cold opens. Every session starts mid-scene, with a hook, a ticking clock, or a problem already going wrong. No "you all meet in a tavern." -A villain who fights back. The enemy runs a spy network, and it adapts. If you tail someone, someone tails you. If you leave a witness, that witness gets a visitor. Your choices ripple, and I keep a secrecy tracker that you can see. - Tense, cinematic scenes. Poisoned drinks at a gala. A chase across rooftops. A negotiation where one wrong word gets someone killed. Expect scenes you'd see in Kingsman or Ocean's Eleven, where the plan matters as much as the dice. - Your plans get to work. When you come up with a heist-style plan, I don't wave it away. Clever prep gets rewarded, and a plan that falls apart mid-job becomes the best scene of the night. - Full voice acting. Every contact, informant, and rival gets a distinct voice, and the music is scored to the scene: quiet strings for a stakeout, drums when the alarm goes off. - The spotlight is shared. Faces, scouts, fixers, and fighters each get their own moment to be the hero of the scene. I build encounters so no one sits out. - Rules are mostly as written, but I lean on the Rule of Cool. If your idea is brilliant, we find a way to make it work.

Homebrew rules

Perkins Critical Hits. On a natural 20, your attack deals maximum damage on all its dice, then you roll the dice again and add the result. I Planned for This. Once per session, declare that your character prepared something ahead of time: a forged pass, a planted contact, a hidden blade, a dead drop already in place. I decide if it's plausible and may attach a cost or a roll. It can't rewrite the plot, but it turns "we didn't think of that" into "of course we did." Day Job. Once per session, when a check clearly ties to your character's career, you can call on it for Advantage. A retired smuggler slipping past a checkpoint or an ex-court scribe spotting a forged seal both qualify. Your career stays relevant instead of ending at character creation.

Safety

How Davi creates a safe table

Session 0 is required. We'll go over lines and veils, tone, and expectations for a dark, morally gray campaign. I use X, N, and O cards in Discord, and you can also message me privately at any time. We take breaks every hour or so. After sessions, I'll check in on how everyone's feeling and what they'd like more or less of.
