About the adventure

Life amongst the stars had granted you what you sought; credits, adventure, and freedom. All you needed to hold on to that was more jobs, so when a big payday bounty crossed your notice, you jumped at it. Unfortunately for you, you bit off a bit more than you could chew. Now, you find yourself on a poor, desert planet with no ship, a limited amount of credits, and not much in terms of ways off this rock. You will need your wits, your skills, and possibly a flexible moral code if you want to survive. Will you, or will you be another bleached skeleton in the sand? This campaign takes place in the Dark Matter sci-fi setting. The 'Verse is a big place where survival can be an accomplishment all on it's own. Don't expect a hero's welcome anywhere you go. Your moral compass may become more of an obstacle than a guide, but that's how it is among the stars. If you can just get back on your feet, you'll have an opportunity, however unlikely it may be, to find everying you've wanted Beyond The Horizion.

About me

I've been playing and GMing for roughly a year. Several of my friends enjoyed ttrpgs when I was growing up, but I never paid them much mind until covid lockdown began and I discovered Critical Role. After years of trying to get my current friend group to play, I finally got a group together, only for our GM to have to leave the group due to work scheduling, leaving me to take over. I have been running games almost every weekend since. I have ran games in D&D 5E(2014) and 5.5E(2024).

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made in Roll20, with the Dark Matter compendium available to players. We'll be playing using 5.5E(2024) rules. Characters will begin at level 3, and we'll see how far it goes from there.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a (free) player subscription on Roll 20, which we'll be using for the VTT. You'll also need a Discord account for voice chat and ambient music.

What Matt aka Mathias brings to the table

I provide the compendiums on Roll 20, ambient music to set the mood during the game, and a Rule of Cool playstyle that sticks mostly to the rules as written, but will bend them to allow cool stuff to happen when it's warranted. I'm not a voice actor, but I do try to make all my characters sound unique and/or distinct.

Homebrew rules

Using a health potion normally is a bonus action. It can be used as an action to gain the full benefits instead of rolling for it. Instead of rolling double dice for critical hits, you'll roll normally then add the max value of the dice. (example: if normal damage is 1d6+3, the crit damage is 1d6+6+3)
