About the adventure

This is an ongoing sandbox campaign seeking new players. The state of the world has been heavily influenced by the party's action, and much of what's been building will soon come to a head. It would be best for new players to have previous experience with D&D as you will be jumping head first into a high level campaign with high stakes and complex narrative circumstances. The campagin so far: Having found an ancient artifact with great interplanar potential in the ruins of Miskesi, and put an end to rebellion in Adenora, the party ventured south to the Hidden Isles to seek out the missing components of the artifact. There, after unknowingly laying the groundwork for the destruction of the island of Janu-shai, the party knowingly allied themselves with those directly responsible for it in order to further their personal goals. After an adventure in the Feywild that could determine the fate of the Liminal Queen, they attempted a heist on Aficus, a besieged magic university island, and found two more components of the artifact. The party got what they were after, but in order to ensure their success, they agreed to betray their dangerous allies. As the Feywild then came calling once more, the party returned to the matter of the Liminal Queen only to be betrayed themselves and see the Liminal Queen banished, though perhaps not for good… The party then ventured into the Horn Forgotten seeking another component of their artifact, but finding two things they were not expecting, the Deck of Many Things and a fight with a greater avatar of the risen god Dohamet. Faced with a complicated battle, the party turned to the deck, and one by one where struck down by it, until at the last possible moment they drew the Fates card, allowing them to rewrite history so Dohamet never ascended! History altered in more ways than expected, and perhaps in ways yet to be discovered, the party now infiltrates Gran Castela, capital of the Kingdom of Castelia. Having disuaded allied nations from wiping the city of the map to stop the dragon king's plan, the party now seeks to stop his plan to hatch and magically grow an army of dragons that would allow him to take over the contient.

About me

Hey, I'm Gabriel and I can't seem to stop worldbuilding. I often find myself making up lore, sometimes for a game but often just for myself. Whether I'm coming up with encounters, NPCs, or magic items, I'm always thinking about how they will fit into the world and what effect they will have, drawing stories and plotlines from the actions of the people in the world. This applies to you and your character too, of course! Whether it's drawing on your backstory, or following up on the decisions you make, my worlds remain a living thing that reacts to how you interact with it. I'm a GM from Quito, Ecuador who's been GMing since 2019 and professionally since 2021 after trying out paid games and deciding to give it a go myself. Though I am new to listing games on this site, I have been doing this for a while now. Since then, I've increasingly gotten into creating homebrew mechanics, starting with magic items you'll find scattered across my world, and extending to whole mechanics like my downtime and crafting rules. I've also recently started creating subclasses, so let me know if you're interested in trying out the Fleshcarver Barbarian, or the Oath of Secrets Paladin. I mostly run D&D, but am very much looking to expand into other game systems.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a free session 0 before you join the campaign, during which we will discuss your character's backstory and how they will be introduced to the campaign. You can roll for stats if you want, but I will ask that you roll in Roll20 so I can see your rolls. Stat rolls are the standard 4d6, drop the lowest. If your first set of rolls is bad or just kind of boring, I may allow a second set of rolls. You may then choose between either or switch to point buy. You may also roll for HP as long as you roll in roll20. There are no rerolls for HP rolls. Characters are currently level 17 and we use milestone leveling. I will ask that you make your character on D&D Beyond. Once you join I will send you a link to join the campaign on D&D Beyond which will grant you access to every book I own there. You may use any character option from any published official 5.5 books, though some may have some caveats or require some reflavoring. I've also recently been working on some homebrew subclasses, so if you might be interested in playing the Fleshcarver Barbarian, the Oath of Secrets Paladin, or the Blade Dancer Rogue, let me know. Keep in mind that if you choose to play one of these subclasses, I might make adjusments to them as we go. You may also take 2 very rare and 1 uncommon magic item at character creation. You may swap out any of those items for two items one rarity lower. You will also get an additional 16d10 x 25 gp at character creation. You may use this ahead of the game to buy additional equipment an potentially some common or uncommon magic item. I tend to be pretty flexible about adjustments to character builds early on, so feel free to try stuff even if you're not sure it will work how you want it to. I may even allow some changes later on, as long as there are no major narrative implications. Any changes with major narrative implications would require narrative justifications.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You should have accounts on Roll20, Discord and D&D Beyond. Since we are using D&D Beyond with Roll20, you should also intall the Beyond20 plug in which makes it easier to use them together. Once you join the campaign, I will send you the invite link to the Discord server. Once you've joined the Discord, please set your server nickname to the same format as the other players: Character Name (Player Name).

What Gabriel brings to the table

I set before you a living world to explore and interact with, full of characters and factions with their own goals and motivations, and intense combat encounters with high stakes. When you join, you will have access to the world map and some lore documents that you can look through if you need a bit of inspiration for your character. I also make regional and city maps when I have the time to do so, and combat maps on Inkarnate when I can't find one online that quite fits the encounter I had in mind. You will also have access to spell templates to place on combat maps to mark spell areas and summons. I do homebrew a fair few monsters and magic items as well, so you may find yourself facing a number of creatures you have not seen before, and earning loot of an unexpected nature. During games you can expect background music and the occasional character voice, though even when just using my own voice I do my best to convey the emotions of NPCs in their speech.

Homebrew rules

While I have homebrewed a number of mechanics for various campaigns, the only one that is actively being used in this campaign is my downtime and crafting system. You will find the handouts for this in Roll20 once you join the campaign. There is also some homebrew content as has been mentione above, but no rule changes.

How Gabriel creates a safe table

We will have a free session 0 before you join the campaign during which we will discuss if there are any subjects you wouldn't be comfortable with. I will then inform other players as appropriate if there are subjects that we should avoid going forward. If anything comes up during a game that was not previously discussed, you may message me in private or in the group Discord if you feel it is better to do so, and we can address it. I also provide a link to an anonymous google form you can message me through if you prefer.
