About the adventure
Bringing the rise of Elemental Evil to our signature world of Valine, where the classic playable fantasy species are joined by a multitude of anthropomorphic animals and custom spins on other fantasy tropes, experience Princes of the Apocalypse for the first time, or revisit the epic campaign in a whole new way in a brand new setting. Suitable for beginners looking to learn the game, there will be multiple variant rules available, decided by agreement of the group and borrowing the best options from Level Up : Advanced 5e and Tales of the Valiant to create a truly dynamic campaign that suits the style of the group. Princes of the Apocalypse will take a group of inexperienced, 1st-level adventurers from the early days of their adventuring careers through 13th level and facing down a world-threatening threat, encountering a menagerie of D&Ds classic monsters along the way along with a few surprises you won't have encountered before. This campaign boasts a customized character creation system designed to encourage unusual combinations of species, classes, subclasses, backgrounds, and cultures collected from over a decade of official and third party supplements. More than 40 playable races, 90+ backgrounds, 18 classes with 130+ subclasses can be narrowed down to a combination of 3 fascinating possibilities to choose from, or simply choose your favorite combination if you prefer and build the character you wish to play. Designed to accommodate the inexperienced player and the veteran player alike we'll bring a unique spin to your D&D experience with a GM boasting nearly 40 years of TTRPG experience and know how alongside a long career as a professional multi-discipline storyteller. Evil awakes. Will you be the one to stop it?

Meet the Game Master
About me
Greetings! With 30+ years of experience as a player, GM, writer, actor and storyteller; experience running multiple TTRPG systems including D&D, Pathfinder, Maelstrom, AFF, Doctor Who RPG and MERP; and as the owner, head writer and primary artist at Eye Wonder Artistry & Games I like to prioritize collaborative storytelling over strict adherence to rules and emphasize the players as the protagonists and heroes at the center of the story. However, I'm certainly not a stranger to a more traditional dungeon crawl or a more mechanics heavy approach. My main goal is to make sure that my players get the experience that they want and that everyone is having fun. Whether you're looking for an extended campaign, a one-shot adventure or something in between and whether you're a beginning or experienced player, I'll tailor a game for your needs. At the end of each campaign I create commemorative character sheets for the players, complete with original character art.

Creating your character
Players are encouraged to use our custom character creation system designed to narrow down the number of options now available, but are welcome to bring their own character or build however they wish (we usually use the 4d6, drop the lowest method for stat generation in this case). Character options from compatible materials are encouraged, although the GM reserves the right to adjust anything that he feels unbalances the game. Our custom character creation system has 4 steps echoing stages of life. Step 1 is Genetics (the potential your character is born with), Step 2 is Adolescence (the effect your upbringing has on your character's development), Step 3 is Apprenticeship (your post adolescent training) and Step 4 is Fate (how the world around you and your destiny shapes your character). The result is a highly customizable set of options that both narrows down tens of thousands of possibilities to a choice of 3 choices at each important stage of development and allows for great flexibility in building the type of character you want while still maintaining the random elements of chance that the dice bring to the game. And fear not! If the dice throw up choices you are not happy with, you can always choose to reroll or simply choose an option you prefer from all the possibilities that the game brings! Furthermore, the early levels (1-3) offer a chance to learn your character and retcon any aspects of the character you feel are not working so that you can be comfortable developing the character that you want to play.

What The Rob of Wonder brings to the table
I've been a professional storyteller in multiple formats (theatre, film, prose, poetry, music and TTRPGs) for over 40 years. I try and tailor the experience to what the group enjoys most. You can expect character voices, detailed descriptions, ambient music and sound effects if you wish it (you can control the volume or turn it off entirely). I'll try and provide evocative imagery of scenery and monsters whenever possible and have a huge library of battle maps to keep you on your toes. Even if you're familiar with the campaign, you'll find quite a few surprises thrown in. I embrace the Rule of Cool in most cases, and I enjoy some of the crunchier, more dynamic and cinematic combat options from Level Up: Advanced 5e which we can introduce if the group as a whole likes them too
Homebrew rules
We'll decide on the homebrew rules to use at Session 0 and adjust throughout the campaign if we decided as a whole to add in other optional rules or take some homebrew rules away and return to Rules as Written. Whatever the group opts for there are 2 key concepts I try and stick to: 1) If it is available to the players, it's available to the monsters (where appropriate) 2) Rulings made on the fly do not create a precedent for the next time until the group as a whole agree to implement it as a table rule

How The Rob of Wonder creates a safe table
We have a Lines and Veils checklist that can be filled out anonymously (if you prefer) and we'll go over table safety and group rules at Session 0. A table safety document will be provided to all players between Session 0 and Session 1 for everyone to refer to, as well as a house rules document for your reference. You are always welcome during the game to hit me up with a private message on Discord or a ping to alert me to a problem and to walk away from the table if needed during a session if you need a cool down. I endeavor to keep open dialogue with all my players in session and between sessions and am open to requests and suggestions to provide the most comfortable, welcoming, and enjoyable environment that I can.
