About the adventure

One world, two realities, and between them a people struggling to find the balance. To the West: the Unity, a continent spanning state that arose from a thousand years of sectarian war, religious strife, and uncontrolled magic. It has brought peace, democracy, and shared prosperity, to all the lands it rules, creating a world where the achievements of mortal kind are self evident. It has brought fourth technical marvels never before dreamed: its armies carry decisive gunpowder weapons, it's skies teem with airships, and its newly laid rail network ensures the connections between its many populous cities. Progress comes at a cost however - under the Unity divine worship and arcane practice are outlawed, dissent is curtained - not by totalitarian enforcement, but by unrelenting social pressure - and all bonds between individuals are secondary to their loyalty to the state. Society is always moving forward as technology continues to advance, but in recent decades the land itself has begun to fail. The Unity always has the answers, but for this mystery none have been forthcoming. The the East: the Sacred Lands, a wild continent of small rural settlements and independent tribes, all watched over by the Old Gods, powerful spirits who ensure the primacy of nature of the desires of the mortal races. The peoples of the east live a slower way of life, and while there are towns and cities of a kind, most live in close harmony with nature under the protection of the great spirits. Not all these spirits are welcoming to mortal kind however, and some among their number have begun to question if they should continue to allow these creatures to continue to live among their unspoiled lands. In between them lies the Perfect Isles, an archipelago created by mortal magic. Centuries ago, magical practitioners both arcane and divine, fleeing persecution in the west, set about their great project with hearts full of hope and all the skill of their arts, creating a land where their descendent can thrive in peace. Around these isles they erected a magical barrier, obfuscating them from the world at large and ensuring their people could live their lives without the violence of war. Utilizing their airship technology the Unity has founded colonies in the east, seeking to develop the resources of the Sacred Lands to make up for the unexplained loss in their own. These efforts have brought them into conflict with the people of the region, and the Old Gods have begun to move against them. Among the isles of the archipelago the people and spirits have become restless as well. Many here continue to fear discovery by the Unity and the loss of their unique way of life, while some are calling for the islanders to finally take their place among the peoples of the world. Amidst the tumult, the Oracle has made a pronouncement: a new Circle has been called, a group of mortals who will speak directly to the spirits on behalf of the people for the first time in centuries.

About me

I got a copy of the original D&D Rules Cyclopedia for my 12th birthday and I've been hooked ever since. In the more than 30 years between now and then I've run and played in hundreds of games across dozens of systems, and loved them all. At heart I am a storyteller and believe than any good story should be told together. I am very excited to finally bring my decades of experience to the virtual table top environment. Having played in multiple campaigns over the past few years I've been very excited to see how technology has had such a huge and positive impact on the world of gaming. In addition to my TTRPG chops I also bring years of professional technology experience to the table and aim to create a fully immersive environment for everyone to enjoy.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can create your character prior to the start of the campaign if you choose to do - I will add you to the Foundry campaign and create a character sheet for you when you sign up. We will be working through character creation as a group during Session 0 as well as via Discord prior to the start of the campaign. I am available for consultation at any time via Discord to help you with any character or setting questions whatsoever, and will happily make time to meet with you prior to session 0 to help you build your character directly. All standard D&D 5.0 content is welcome at my table, unless specifically stated otherwise. Please check with me prior to using any 3rd party or homebrew content for your character. You will want to make use of the campaign player's guide when creating your character. This guide contains information on the world your character comes from and includes a number of class and background options to choose from. What to expect

Preparing for the session

Make sure you have a Discord and a Foundry account prior to Session 0. Friendly reminder that these are all free to use software, so don't believe anyone who tries to charge you for them.

What Nicky Perfect brings to the table

We will be meeting via Discord and playing on Foundry. Music, images, tokens, and animations will be provided for an immersive experience. I'm very happy to help with creating your character and using the standard character sheet, including customizations. I create a custom Discord server for each of my games - you will receive an invite to this and Foundry once you join.

Homebrew rules

- Note that I use the optional attack of opportunity rule for spellcasting when within reach of enemy creatures. - The dice have a story to tell at my table, so a natural 20 always means a success and a natural 1 always means a failure. The degree of success or failure is determined by other rolls and circumstance. - Any other house rules that the group decides on or special rules specific to the campaign will be discussed in Session 0 and posted to the Discord prior to Session 1.

Safety

How Nicky Perfect creates a safe table

A document including agreed upon lines and veils along with a safety checklist will be sent to all players after Session 0, and before Session 1. Discussion of safety features will be a main focus of session 0. I will provide players with digital safety cards to use in the VTT environment. We will take a scheduled 10 minute break at the halfway mark of each session. Additional breaks can be provided if required and/or agreed upon as part of our campaign planning. I will also be checking in regularly with players outside of sessions via Discord for Stars and Wishes discussions, both individually and as a group.
