About the adventure
Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall presents a campaign in which the player characters are agents in Operation Deadfall. They undertake a series of clandestine missions to undermine and defeat Szass Tam before he can unleash a horde of demonic undead that would decimate Thay. If the operation is discovered, Szass Tam will kill the characters and everyone they love. Operation Deadfall combines the heart-pumping excitement of an action-based spy thriller with the high-fantasy, magic-steeped gameplay that defines Dungeons & Dragons. Player characters will reach level 20 by the adventure's end—and they will need to use all their power and resources if they hope to defeat Szass Tam. --- What to Expect: - This campaign is geared toward experienced players who enjoy mechanical depth, tactical combat, and getting the most out of their characters. You'll reach level 20, and you'll need to know your toolkit. - Encounters may be adjusted to challenge an experienced party. I regularly customize stat blocks, enemy tactics, and encounter composition rather than running everything exactly as printed. - Deadfall has a defined overarching story and structure, so there will be more narrative direction than in a sandbox campaign. Within that framework, however, I'll give you as much agency as possible in how you approach objectives, solve problems, and deal with consequences. - Clever tactics, unusual spell interactions, and creative uses of your abilities are encouraged. I won't necessarily say yes to every rules interaction, but I enjoy seeing players find solutions I didn't anticipate. - My table is RAW/RAI by default. The written rules and their intended interpretation are the baseline. This keeps expectations consistent and gives everyone a level playing field. Rule-of-cool and reasonable exceptions happen, but they're the exception rather than the norm.

About me
Hi, I'm Mini. I first started playing DnD with my college friends in 2015, but didn't truly get into it until 2020 due to the pandemic. I've recently picked up GM-ing as well—I've always loved writing stories, and being able to share my world and let others shape it feels incredibly rewarding. I've recently started dipping my toes outside of DnD into other tabletop games as well, and I'm really excited to play with others and exchange our experiences and ideas!

Creating your character
This is a Level 11-20 adventure. We will be using 5.5e rules. We will discuss character creation options during Session 0. For character creation, you may use the following resources: - Core Rules: PHB 2024 - Expanded Rules: Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun, Astarion's Book of Hungers, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer (Artificer class only!), Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, Arcana Unleashed - Expanded Rules (2014): Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse Stats: We will roll using a custom formula. You can pick between your rolled results, or if you don't like them, take Point-Buy instead. Starting Equipment: starting equipment + additional starting gear will be discussed at Session 0.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord account and a working microphone for voice. You are welcome to use any tool you wish for character sheets: DNDBeyond, Demiplane, Roll20, Dicecloud, PDF, or even just pen and paper. The VTT we use is Owlbear Rodeo. You just need a browser with Internet. I highly recommend using a computer for it. While Owlbear runs on a phone, it may be slow and you may have difficulty controlling everything on a smaller screen.
What Mini brings to the table
We'll be using Kenku for our music player. I usually use it in conjunction with Tabletop Audio for ambient music. I tend to stick very close to Rules as Written. In some cases, I might overrule the source books when the wording is ambiguous and leaves room for unexpected, broken, and unfun interactions. Don't be afraid to ask something even if strictly speaking, the rules wouldn't allow for it—if you can justify it and it makes sense, I'll offer a bargain. Not the devilish kind, but... you know.
Homebrew rules
Crit: We will be using Perkins crits (roll damage normally and add maximum of the damage dice, e.g. a 2d6+4 on a crit deals 2d6 + 4 + 12). Cover: other creatures in the line of fire provide only situational cover.

How Mini creates a safe table
If at any point, a topic brought up by the DM or any of the players makes you uncomfortable, you are welcome to use an X card. You are free to take a break from the table when you need to for any reason, no questions asked. We will be taking periodic breaks during the session as well.
