About the adventure

Being newly knighted by your Seer, they have instructed you to form a company, find the renown Pigeon Knight, and aid them in a quest. All Knights of the realm swear the same oath. How you keep yours is up to you. Seek the Myths Honour the Seers Protect the Realm This will be a sandbox campaign with full player agency, open to new and experienced players alike. One of Mythic Bastionland's greatest strengths is its immersive treatment of time and character growth. You'll begin this story as Knights-Errant. As you mature and grow old, so will the vassals and other characters you meet along the way. New members of the campaign will join your company as Knights-Errant, and as part of your knightly duties you'll be expected both to challenge them to grow and to support them. As a group you'll seek Myths and gain Glory, building your individual reputations within the Realm. Your adventures will travel dangerous, snakelene trails and navigate courts of intrigue, and you may even become rulers of the Realm yourselves. We'll meet weekly for sessions of 2.5–3 hours, with one 10-minute break. After four to six sessions, we should age out of the youthful Knight-Errant period and be ready to mature. Knights may perish in this game. It isn't guaranteed, but it is likely. If your Knight dies, you'll roll a new character and return to the game as a Knight-Errant as soon as the fiction allows, which is often in the same session. "Remember that ultimately an RPG campaign tells the story of a whole world, not a single character or even a single party. As the campaign continues, it's enriched by the stories of the characters that came before." - Ben Milton, Knave (2024)

About me

I run high‑stakes adventures that blend daring exploration with meaningful character growth. My favorite thing about being a Game Master or Warden is watching a group of players discover new facets of their characters while solving problems, overcoming adversity, having fun! Let's make some choices and tell some dice stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

⬡ In traditional old school renaissance style, you'll roll for your Knights in Foundry VTT when you join your first session. In the event of your Knight's demise you will use the same method to roll a new Knight and rejoin the same game within minutes, if you'd like. Some player character deaths can take a while to process though. ⬡ You don't "Build" characters in OSR games or even write a backstory before you play. The best backstory comes from a character's revealing actions and dialogue within the game. ⬡ But if you really want to hand pick a Knight to play, buy a copy of Mythic Bastionland and read through all 72 knights. Pick one and bring its name to the game session and I will set you up. I'd like to play all of them eventually myself.

The current party

Session 0 is Sunday October 18th and 2pm EST.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

⬡ The game is designed in such a way that players don’t need to know the rules before they start playing. But if you would like to be as well prepared as you can be, you can download a free Quick Start Guide PDF from https://chrismcdee.itch.io/mythic-bastionland ⬡ There is nothing additional that you will need to buy. ⬡ Joining my Discord server is entirely optional, but you can use a free Discord account to do that. ⬡ I maintain a pro Zoom subscription to run the calls for our games. You can run Zoom in your web browser but It works best if you have the Zoom client installed, which you can get here: https://zoom.us/download ⬡ No web cam is required. ⬡ I will provide you with a login to my Foundry Virtual Table Top. It runs in your web browser and you don't need to sign up for anything.

What Dom Bosco brings to the table

⬡ I will provide a regional Hex Map that will change as the knight's actions change the world. ⬡ I play ambient music in Foundry VTT. You control the volume on your end and can mute it entirely if you wish. ⬡ I write recaps of each completed session. I usually deliver them right before the start of the next session.

Homebrew rules

if we feel that we need to add homebrew to make the game more fun we'll discuss it as a group before adding it to the game.

How Dom Bosco creates a safe table

⬡ If we have never played before I would prefer that we have a brief one-on-one zoom call prior to you jumping into a new session. ⬡ Regardless of whether we can arrange that or not, I ask each of my players to complete a lines and veils questionnaire and return to me. I want to know if there are types of content that would make the game unenjoyable for you. ⬡ I run games that are both dark and funny. At times it can be more of the former, as I am fascinated by fairy tale folk horror. ⬡ My table is inclusive, but does not tolerate bigotry of any kind. See Paradox of Intolerance.
