About the adventure

In a world plagued by a past Cataclysm, the sun itself has been snuffed out, the sea turned inky black, and the Gate to the Underworld has been sundered. In the year 847 Post-Cataclysm, the city of Doskvol, the Dark Jewel of Akaros, is undergoing an industrial revolution. The city is a layered labyrinth of smoke and mist, full of criminal organizations, dark arcane forces, daring inventors, lavish nobles, and underneath it all, people just trying to get by. In Blades in the Dark, each player makes their own character using a Playbook, and then the players together create their own up-and-coming gang. Will you play a shadowy Lurker a part of a gang of Assassins? Or perhaps a manipulative Slide who smooths things over with their gang of drug Hawkers? Even a fanatical Whisper serving their dark god by creating a nefarious Cult. With the extensive city and faction information present in the Blades in the Dark rulebook, this campaign is very sandbox focused at least to start out, so I will encourage my players to drive the narrative forward and the world will react accordingly. I want to see what kind of daring plans and plots your gang can come up with!

About me

Hi there! My name is Joseph, and I’m a long time gamemaster, actor, and professional improviser. I’ve run and played TTRPGS for about 10 years now, starting with DnD 5e, and later branching out into other systems. I have a degree in Acting and Performance, I’ve worked at Queen and Rook Game Cafe as a Youth Dungeon master for 3 years, I’ve also worked at a larp camp called Mythik Camps, as well as an actor for the Sterling Renaissance Festival! Please reach out to me if you’re looking for an experienced game master, with a strong understanding of game mechanics, as well as experience in performing and Role-playing. I can’t wait to create amazing stories with you and your friends :)

Character creation

Creating your character

We will collectively make characters in Session 0, referring to the Playbooks in the BitD Rulebook, which I can provide if needed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

At least have a microphone, and have an account on Roll20

What AverageJoe brings to the table

I will run our game on Roll20, where I have the Blades in the Dark GM kit along with tokens for clocks, maps of Doskvol, and shareable Crew sheets. I love to utilize music during my games, and the flow of BitD isn't incredibly crunchy, but is generally more narrative driven. I enjoy the Rule of Cool as long as it can make sense in the world.

How AverageJoe creates a safe table

In Session 0, we will go over character creation and general interests for the campaign, as well as clearly defining Lines and Veils as necessary, and I will keep a close track of the type of content we will want to avoid
