About the adventure

Sod the Crowns! You're sick and tired of earning nothing but a shilling for the threat of a pegleg. Defying the fate of dying a forgotten farmer, you've abandoned peace & bet your neck on a swing for life as a Captain in the Pirate Fleets of the Republic of Saltmarsh. This year marks a lead to your greatest score yet: risky, but will perhaps set you for life. A Royal Convoy with hundreds of thousands of doubloons perhaps? Or a map to an ancient underwater treasure? You & your fellow captains were called mad! Perhaps true. Perhaps also: there's more than just money at the end of the voyage. What sin whispered you into this life, perhaps? A Greed for Riches? Wrath against a Deep Treachery? By Session 0, we'll all craft the campaign's premise so what is deeply personal is also a collective reason to set sail. 💀 Pilot Two Character Sheets: A Level 10 Captain, and a Level 5 Ship. Custom build your vessel with official classes & features given a naval context, and your choice of ship models & weaponry. 💀 Expanded Martial Attack Options for Brawling, Swashbuckling, Gunslinging & Freerunning 💀 Engage in World of Darkness inspired Drama Systems, from Merits like Allies & Domains, to Flaws like Enemies & Debts. ⊹ ࣪ ﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏𓊝﹏𓂁﹏⊹ ࣪ ˖ This Campaign is my own take on both Ghosts of Saltmarsh & the Moonshae Isles. 12 sessions will be dedicated to a tailor-fit personal adventure of the Pirate fleet you'll custom build together. And should you wish to continue, an Age of Sail inspired Ghost of Saltmarsh plotline awaits you. If you enjoy Criminal Political Dramas, Naval Adventures, & Deep Character Thesis, this game's for you. Lighter moments exist too, of course. The Pirate life is just as Ridiculous as it is Perilous. A Short Life but a Fun One, as they say. Let's set sail!

About me

( ˶°ㅁ°) !! Those eyes... I recognize your affliction, weary adventurer. The profile scrolling, the intrusive thoughts of your next character... it can't be! You have Tabletop Addiction! Come in quick, I have the solution! 🏠............🚶🚶‍♀️💨 ⛓𐂺⛓ AHA! Gotcha!! >:Dc I've got you in my Landing Page! Now you must sit through my sales pitch without ever leaving! MWEHEHE- wait, what do you mean you can just teleport out? ∘ ∘ ∘ ( °ヮ° ) ? "Back Button," you say? ... ( T ᗜ T ) NO, PLEASE!!, I wanna run a game for you!!! Let's get acquainted a bit at least, yeah? This won't take long... *clears throat* 👋😁 Yo! I'm PeanutBudderJ, or Peebs for short. And despite the kidnapping, welcome to my abode! Pretty cozy despite the chains, huh? Don't worry, I tied em' up real loosely. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧ 🧠 I've got a lot of things I'm passionate about: Martial Arts, Psychology, Public Speaking, Education, and of course, Tabletop Roleplaying Games. Squeezing them all together is one of my favorite things to do~ 🤯 And heck, TTRPGs are awesome, huh? It was love at first sight for me. What do you mean I could make my own character AND play them in a system?! Video games could never give me this much freedom!! 📖 After 5+ years behind the GM screen, I can confidently say that I LOVE both Homebrew and Collaborative Storytelling. Those backstories and NPCs you have? I'll make sure they actually matter at the table. Got a character concept that works better with some homebrew? Why not, let's switch things up! 😳 Recently, some friends who've tried paid D&D told me that I already match the production value they'd expect from a paid game. And while that's super duper humbling to hear, since I've been GMing for years anyway, I figured... Why not give professional GMing a go? ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ Gimme a shot, why don't ya? You won't regret it, man~ (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞ Oh, and lemme get those chains off of ya. If you're interested enough to listen to my whole spiel anyway, I'd love for you to decide for yourself if I'm worth your while. Just keep scrollin! Or leave me a message.

Character creation

Creating your character

⚠️ Disclaimer. There are Lore-beats, Special Rules, & Story Integrations to be discussed during Session 0, so I recommend holding off on finalizing anything before then. But whether you're excited to write a framework or are simply curious about the rules, here they are~ ⊹ ࣪ ﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏𓊝﹏𓂁﹏⊹ ࣪ ˖ 🎲 Avrae Compatible. Creating a character sheet compatible with Avrae, such as Dicecloud, Google Sheets, or D&D Beyond is recommended but not required. For maximum Flexibility for this Campaign's Custom Content, DiceCloud v1 offers particularly high customizability. 🤔 2014/2024. The game will use 2024 rules, but I'm open to switching certain features or spells to their 2014 versions by request, such as the Paladin's Smite or Grapples being resolved through Contested Athletics. 💰 Character Creation. Create a Level 5 Character using Point Buy for your Starting Statistics. Martials will have some extra toys to play with through Custom Rulesets that support the Pirate Fantasy, but Mages are absolutely welcome too! 👨🏻‍💻 Custom Background. Like a Background but don't vibe with the ASIs or Origin Feat? So long as they make sense, just swap them for somethin' you want~ 🏴‍☠️ Captain Concept. You're all Pirate Captains working in a Party known as a Squadron - see Homebrew Rules below for support of that Fantasy. You don't have to be Good Aligned, but being unlikeable will result in Mutiny. This is still a Team Game. 📚 Approved Sources. WotC Sourcebooks are generally good to go. I also have a large list of 3rd Party Content that my Group has Playtested for fun that I'm willing to share: including but not limited to the Gunslinger, Warlord, Witch, Pugilist, & Revised Ranger, with appropriate balancing. Outside this, you may request approval 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 🗣️ If you have a character concept but you're unsure if they'll fit the setting, let's get in touch! We'll see what we can work out.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🌐 Software. You'll only need Discord & an Online Sheet (DiceCloud v1, D&D Beyond, Google Sheets). No Downloads required 🎤 Hardware. A Good Microphone, Headset, Stable Internet, & Quiet Environment are recommended for full immersion. A Computer is preferred, as it's WAY more compatible with Owlbear Rodeo than Mobile. Webcams are Optional! 🦉 Links. Once we get to know each other, I'll send you a Discord Server link. On Game Day, I'll send out an Owlbear Rodeo link for the Map. 💡 Concepts. Even a vague Character framework is fine, especially for Session 0. We'll handle the integration afterward. The Captain will be Level 10, while the ship will be Level 5.

What Peebs brings to the table

📖 General 🪎 Multiple Session 0s. The 1st Session is only $5, while the rest is free. These ensure everyone's integrated with the World & each other. They can happen within the same week, or over the course of multiple weeks. 🪎 Session 0.1 ($5). Player Introductions, Lore, Additional Rules, Boundaries, & Plotting the Campaign's Story Beats to what everyone Wants. 🪎 Session 0.2 ($0). A Short 1-2 Hour Open Table discussion on Characters: tackling relationships & history as a group, as well as your ship. 🪎 Note: Time can be given to creating ships, or templates can be provided 🪎 Rule of Cool. The game heavily emphasizes Custom Content, Roleplay, Improv, & Rules that serve the Pirate Fantasy! 𓂃𓊝 ོ☼𓊝𓂃 ོ☼𓂃𓊝 ོ☼𓊝𓂃 ོ☼𓂃𓊝 ོ☼𓊝𓂃 ོ☼ ⚔️ Combat: ★★★★☆ 🪎 Multiple Types of Combat. Engage in Brawls, Duels, Skirmishes & Army Battles both on land & at sea 🪎 Dynamic Environments. Smash enemies into a Table or beneath a Cart Wheel to Deal more Damage. Blow up the floor & fall into another map: where the possibilities for violence change! 🪎 Combat as a Puzzle. Enemies aren't Hit Point Sponges: they have strengths & weaknesses you can Study & Observe. Like how a trained Knight may Autocounter whilst wearing armor, but are vulnerable to Aimed Shots through the hinges of their armor. 🎭 Roleplay: ★★★★★ 🪎 Your NPCs. Family, Friends, Crew, Allies & Mentors are all relevant to the story 🪎 Criminal Drama. The Seven Swords Syndicate compete, disagree, & betray one another. As your squadron's part of one of them: who will you trust? 🪎 Negotiation as a Puzzle. A Persuasion Check isn't enough sometimes: saying the right & wrong things can make someone more or less likely to help ⚓ Exploration: ★★★★★ 🪎 Everyone's Story. Your Character has unfinished business, that's why they entered this life. The group has reason for forming too. All of that is the focus. 🪎 Choose Your Adventure. Cities, Points of Interest, Dungeons, & Hexcrawls always offer multiple paths forward. The Korrin is vast, & the Moonshae moreso!

Homebrew rules

📖 General 🍺 Two Character Sheets. One for your Captain, one for your Ship. Attach character creation options to a ship, such as classes & spells, & see them reimagined in a Naval Context. On top of this: play with toys like Crew Actions, Officer Actions, & a Large Array of Naval Weaponry & Ship Models! 🍺 Pirate Captain Origin Feat. Everyone receives this during Character Creation in addition to their normal Origin Feat: granting Proficiency in Water Vehicles, Single-Shot Firearms like Flintlocks, & more. 🍺 Revised Rest. Rests are split into Half-Time (1 Hour), Short (8 Hours), & Long (1 Week). Different Accommodations during Any Rest can restore Hit Dice, Features, & even give Buffs. 🍺 Improved Inspiration. Hold Inspiration equal to your Prof. Bonus, & may even expend them to act outside of your Sheet, within reason, or retroactively claim you prepared for a moment. ⚔️ Combat: ★★★★☆ 🍺 Expanded Attack Options. A Martial with Multiattack becomes more than just “I Attack:” Buffed Shoves, Taunts & Aimed Shots are crucial to the game. 🍺 More Reaction Options. Increase your chances of Parrying a Single Attack, or Tag-Team with someone else to give them a small bonus to their Offense or Defense! 🍺 Brawling. Attacking next to an Interactable or Destructible Object deals more Damage & can add interesting Debuffs. 🍺 Freerunning. Either as a Bonus Action or while Dashing, you gain Movement Speed Bonuses when moving into relevant Objects like Tables, Walls, & Moving Carts. 🍺 Drink Potions as a Bonus Action. 🍺 Critical Injuries. A Fear & Hunger-style Coin Flip can trigger Critical Injuries when you reach Half or Zero Hit Points. 🍺 Last Stand. You can still use an Action or Bonus Action while at 0 HP, but can only Crawl. 🎭 Roleplay: ★★★★★ 🍺 Merits & Flaws. Mechanize backstory & relationships. The more Flaws you have, such as Enemies, Stalkers, Infamy, & Debts, the more Merits like Allies & Domains you receive during Character Creation. 🍺 Virtues & Sins. Acting according to a Virtue or Sin, whether to your detriment or for the sake of Drama, warrants an Inspiration! 🍺 Bring Your NPC. During specific encounters, you can bring certain NPCs with you. The party has a collective pool of Legendary Actions to command them, known as Heroic Actions, which recharge at the Top of Initiative. 🍺 Reputation. Every Faction remembers what you've done for them, & Jobs don't necessarily make everyone happy. ⚓ Exploration: ★★★★★ 🍺 Downtime. Weeks between adventures, you can earn Merits, Craft Items, Earn Money, & more! 🍺 Learning Unique Skills. Either through Adventures or Training, you may earn Merits known as “Loresheets,” which are upgradeable Skills that exist outside your Class. 🍺 Magicraft. Monsters drop Essences that can be turned into Potions, Elixirs, or Magic Items - encouraging Hunting. But gather them quickly, or they'll rot! 🍺 Improved Artifice. Artificers can Upgrade Magic Items even further using Essences.

How Peebs creates a safe table

🛟 Session 0 Oath. During Session 0, we'll clearly discuss everyone's Boundaries & make an Oath to each other that we'll uphold them. Boundaries can always be added or changed upon discovering new things that make Players uncomfortable. Mechanics for resolving Conflicts will also be discussed during Session 0. 🛟 Tabletop Etiquette. Players will also be expected to uphold the Spirit of Play & the Startplaying Code of Conduct: which involves proper Spotlighting (not holding the Microphone too long, but also taking initiative to reach for it), preservation of Immersion & Momentum (talking in Character, or about the Game, rather than unrelated things), & Timeliness (avoiding On-the-Day Absences except in Emergencies). 🛟 Skip Without Question. When a Scene is making a Player uncomfortable, whether or not it violates a Line or Veil, the Scene will be skipped without question. The X, N, or O Cards can be used in service of this. In particularly distressing circumstances, the Player may step out, or the Game may be paused for a Break & Debrief. 🛟 Player Consent. Before a Scene that may heavily Impact another Player Character, such as Betrayal or Humor at the expense of said PC, consent will be gathered. If the answer is no, that particular action against another PC will not be allowed. 🛟 Private Reporting. When Boundaries are crossed, or another Player is made Uncomfortable due to someone's actions, affected Players are encouraged to message the GM privately so that a discussion can be arranged to resolve it. 🛟 Conflict Resolution. For recurring or interpersonal issues, Concerns are resolved through three stages: 🛟 Stage 1: Private Conversation. A Private Conversation with the Player involved. If requested by the Reporter, their identity may remain Anonymous where reasonably possible. 🛟 Stage 2: Facilitated Conversation. A Group Conversation between the Players involved, with the GM facilitating Communication & Conflict Management. A solution is then agreed upon by the Players involved. 🛟 Stage 3: Removal Discussion. If the issue continues, the GM will facilitate a discussion regarding whether the Player should remain in the Game. The GM may also remove a Player immediately when the severity of an incident warrants it. 🛟 Improving Your Experience. I welcome conversations about your Characters out of Game, especially about stories you want to tell, dissatisfactions you want to bring up, or adjustments that could make the Game better. At the end of the day, I'm always open to hearing Feedback and finding ways to make the experience better for everyone!
