About the adventure

First time running this campaign frame so I aim to stay pretty faithful to it. There will of course be player integration as campaign frames in daggerheart have a lot more wiggle room for players to get into instead of just following a prewritten story. It will be a lot of highschool drama, magical nonsense, and getting way in over your head as you discover a world of magic and splendor beyond the walls of the magic 101 classroom. In a modern world of knights and cars, wands and flip phones, there’s no better place to study magic than the floating school known as Castle High. Drifting among the mysterious ruins of the ancient world and modern settlements that populate the clouds, this school and its surroundings hold secrets, danger, and something more sinister. A string of disappearances has recently plagued the school, and no one knows who or what is behind it—or who will disappear next. In a Castle High campaign, you’ll play adventurous high schoolers who take magic classes, explore sky islands, and search for their missing classmates.

About me

Hello, I'm Light. I specialize in improvisation, obscure settings, deadly combats, and homebrew augmentations to DND 5e. With over 5 years of experience I have made numerous worlds for uncommon genres for DND where my players can explore and make their own choices that will impact the story and world around them. My best feat beyond the functional homebrew, balanced but challenging combat, and immersive and stange worlds is the ability to keep the story moving no mater where the players turn with a web of frameworks for the story that the players can fill in with their choices and on the spot story telling. There is no railroads in an open world.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will start as level 1. Characters will be made in foundry using base, hope and fear, and void content. Note that each setting has specific limitations and reframing of conventional choices. If you have any questions for these feel free to ask for more details.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have a discord account for chat otherwise all content will be provided by me on foundry. Feel free to browse for character art if you like or you can wait until session 0 where we will build characters and share ideas. The frame does have some session 0 questions for players to tie themselves into the world. You don't need an answer now but reading them can help you be better prepared for when the game starts. • How does your community feel about Castle High? Did they help you go, make you go, or try to stop you? • Who from your community do you miss most? What unique way have they promised to communicate with you while you’re away? • What about living here feels very different from home? What feels familiar? • Why did you enroll at Castle High? • Who is one friend you made during orientation? What have they told you about their connection to the missing students? • Who is one teacher you made a positive impression on, and how did you do it? Who is one teacher you made a negative impression on, and what caused it? • You’ve already begun some of the core classes in your track. Pick one feature from your subclass or domains. How did you learn it? • What surprised you when you first entered your tower? Were you assigned to the tower you wanted? What aspect of your new home most excites you? • A group in another tower has declared themselves your rivals. What tower are they in? What caused this rivalry to start? What have they said they’re going to do about it? • How did Riley’s disappearance affect the last two days of your orientation week? What did the adults do about it? How has it changed the other students’ behavior?

What Light brings to the table

I am newer to daggerheart but have been running ttrpgs for half a decade now with a style that relies on improvisation and player choices. A lot less scripted games and more making the world as we go. It is an ocean wide and a puddle deep but I can dig it faster than you can swim. I use setting music and voice acting, though I'm hardly talented at that. I like to challenge players with combats, put them in tense situations for roleplay, but most of all have a good time and have fun. I'm not so serious that I can't enjoy a pun or entertain a ridiculous idea once in a while. I've been upgrading my Foundry account with extra bells and whistles using free and premium modules to give players a more memorable experience.

Homebrew rules

I don't have much changes to daggerheart as I like the system as it is.

Safety

How Light creates a safe table

Players are invited to privately message me on any limitations they may want implanted that will be brought up as boundaries in the game. Most games run with a PG13 tone though some settings will lean differently and they will be outlined. On the discord server there is a code of conduct but there hasn't been any issues. Be kind, be considerate, don't be a problem. You'll do just fine.
