About the adventure

In a land of broken legends and impossible vows, you are not adventurers—you are knights already burdened with myth. Mythic Bastionland, by Chris McDowall, is a stark, evocative roleplaying game where each player begins as a legendary knight, defined as much by their oath as by their flaws. There are no leveling tracks or traditional classes—your identity is forged through your Bastion, your Myth, and the strange world you wander. The setting is fragmented and dreamlike: crumbling kingdoms, forgotten gods, and uncanny landscapes where meaning is often more important than logic. Characters are powerful from the outset, but that power is precarious, shaped by choices, consequences, and the weight of their own stories. The game is built for fast, intuitive play with minimal rules and maximum interpretation. Resolution is simple and decisive, encouraging bold action and creative problem-solving rather than mechanical mastery. The focus is not on accumulating power, but on confronting the unknown, fulfilling (or failing) your vows, and navigating a world that feels ancient, symbolic, and often indifferent. Sessions tend to unfold like dark folklore—episodic, mysterious, and filled with moments of strange beauty or quiet dread. Perfect for players who enjoy narrative-first play, surreal exploration, and mythic storytelling, Mythic Bastionland offers a distinct alternative to traditional fantasy RPGs. It rewards curiosity, embraces ambiguity, and places the burden of meaning directly in the hands of the players. This is a game about what it means to be a knight when the world no longer makes sense—and whether your legend will endure, transform, or be forgotten.

About me

You bring the characters. I'll bring the world. Together, we'll make it ours. I run living worlds where your choices matter. Bring me your character. I'll give you a world worth exploring—and then we'll discover together what happens when you start changing it. My games are story-rich, player-driven, and built around meaningful choices. NPCs remember what you've done. Decisions have consequences. Character backgrounds become part of the campaign. Stories develop in directions neither the players nor I necessarily expected when we started. With nearly 600 games hosted on StartPlaying and decades of tabletop RPG experience, I've guided adventurers through everything from sprawling campaigns to deadly one-night adventures. I welcome seasoned veterans and first-time players alike. I love sandbox campaigns, dangerous old-school adventures, mysteries, horror, exploration, and the occasional glorious dungeon crawl. My gaming library spans Dungeons & Dragons, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Mutant Crawl Classics, Call of Cthulhu, Traveller, Top Secret, Shadowdark, Dolmenwood, Mörk Borg, CY_BORG, Pirate Borg, and plenty more. But the system isn't the most important part. The players are. You bring the characters. I'll bring the world. Then we make it ours.
