About the adventure

Your ship is damaged, supplies are running low, and Station Zero is your best chance of making it home. But when you dock, no one answers your calls. The station is under lockdown, its halls sit abandoned, and its crew has seemingly vanished without a trace. Yet doors still open in distant corridors, security systems detect unexplained movement, and somewhere in the darkness, something is waiting. What begins as a desperate search for repairs soon becomes a fight to survive and uncover what happened aboard Station Zero. Explore the abandoned facility, piece together the fate of its missing crew, navigate failing systems, and discover what has made the station its home. Getting off Station Zero may be difficult—but escaping without bringing its horrors with you may prove even harder. What to Expect Station Zero is a four-session, Level 3 sci-fi survival horror mini-campaign using D&D 5e. The campaign focuses heavily on suspense, investigation, exploration, roleplay, and environmental horror, with combat used alongside these elements rather than being the sole focus. The game uses a combination of theater of the mind and tactical battle maps. Many exploration and horror sequences are intentionally handled through theater of the mind, allowing sound, description, and uncertainty to play a major role in building tension. While the game uses D&D 5e mechanics, Station Zero takes place in a science-fiction setting. Characters are encouraged to embrace the theme with futuristic technology, firearms, modern equipment, and sci-fi-flavored versions of traditional D&D abilities and magic. This game is best suited for players who enjoy: Sci-fi and survival horror Investigation and uncovering mysteries Roleplay and exploration Slow-building tension and suspense Theater-of-the-mind gameplay Tactical combat mixed with non-combat encounters Being placed in dangerous situations where fighting isn't always the best answer Beginners are welcome! You don't need experience with horror games or science-fiction settings to join—just bring a character ready to discover what happened aboard Station Zero.

About me

I’ve been Dungeon Mastering Dungeons & Dragons since 2018, with a passion for creating original adventures where players are encouraged to roleplay, get creative, and make the story their own. Homebrew is at the heart of what I do. Every one-shot, mini-campaign, and short campaign I run is written by me, allowing me to create a wide variety of adventures—from ridiculous comedy and chaotic fun to mysteries, horror, high-stakes action, and everything in between. At my table, my biggest priority is making sure everyone is having fun and gets a chance to participate. I take a flexible approach to the rules and love when players think outside the box. Rather than looking for the "right" solution, I want players to feel comfortable experimenting, making unexpected choices, and seeing where the story takes us. I also design my games to be easy to fit into real life. Not everyone has the time—or wants—to commit to a campaign that could run for the next two years. My one-shots tell a complete adventure in a single session, my mini-campaigns run for just four sessions, and even my longest short campaigns are designed to wrap up within about three months. Whether you have one free night or you're looking for a complete campaign experience without a years-long commitment, my goal is the same: give you a memorable adventure, a complete story, and a table where you can have fun playing D&D.

Character creation

Creating your character

Adventure Level: Station Zero is designed for Level 3 characters. Players should have their characters fully created before the first session begins, including stats, abilities, spells, and equipment, to ensure the game starts on time. Characters can be set up in Roll20 or on another platform. If your character is not in Roll20, please send the DM a link or PDF of your character sheet 1–2 hours before the session so it can be reviewed. Please also provide a picture for your character token, or bring your own, so your character is ready for gameplay. Ability scores will use the standard array following the D&D 2024 Player's Handbook rules. Homebrew options are allowed but must be approved by the DM beforehand to ensure balance. Sci-Fi Character Flavor Station Zero uses D&D 5e mechanics in a science-fiction setting, so players are strongly encouraged to flavor their characters accordingly! You do not need to completely change how your character works mechanically—the goal is to give familiar D&D abilities, spells, and equipment a sci-fi twist. For example, a spellcaster might describe their magic as psionics, experimental technology, cybernetic enhancements, nanotechnology, alien abilities, or advanced science. A Fire Bolt could be a plasma shot, Cure Wounds could use a medical device or nanobots, and a spellcasting focus might instead be a wrist-mounted computer or piece of experimental technology. Traditional equipment can be flavored in the same way. Crossbows might become firearms, armor can become tactical or futuristic protective gear, and adventuring equipment can be described as modern or advanced technology. The mechanics remain the same unless otherwise discussed with the DM. Characters themselves should also feel appropriate for a sci-fi adventure. Scientists, engineers, mercenaries, soldiers, medics, pilots, security officers, explorers, researchers, and other space-faring concepts are all welcome. If you are a new player or need help adapting a character concept to the setting, let the DM know in advance! Assistance can be provided before the first session so your character is ready when the adventure begins.

What Samantha B. brings to the table

I strive to create an immersive and engaging experience where the story comes alive through visuals, sound, and interactive storytelling. I use vivid images, maps, and digital handouts to help you visualize locations, clues, and important objects, allowing you to interact directly with the world. Ambient music and sound effects enhance mood, build tension, and make scenes feel alive, whether subtle background noise or dramatic cues. All NPCs have distinct personalities and voices, making interactions memorable and easy to follow. Combat and encounters use tokens on battle maps, and I embrace the “rule of cool”, encouraging creative solutions and rewarding clever ideas. My table style is laid-back and flexible, focused on keeping the game fun while maintaining engagement. I value clear communication and transparency, keeping players informed about rules, expectations, and story developments. I am punctual and reliable, so sessions start on time, and you can count on a smooth, organized experience. Players can expect a mix of strategic gameplay, immersive storytelling, and interactive problem-solving, all in an environment designed for enjoyment and collaboration. My goal is for everyone to feel included, have fun, and walk away with a memorable adventure.

Homebrew rules

Critical Hits: When you score a critical hit, deal maximum damage plus a regular damage roll. Weapons: Switching between weapons is a free action, allowing for smooth combat flow. Chases & Travel: I use streamlined, custom rules to make travel and chase sequences exciting without slowing the game down. Skill Challenges: Custom skill challenges are used to create dynamic, story-driven obstacles. Rules will be explained in-game as needed. Tone & Flexibility: Rules are tools for fun and story, not obstacles. I prioritize enjoyment and narrative, and will adapt or clarify mechanics on the fly to keep the game flowing.

Safety

How Samantha B. creates a safe table

I prioritize creating a safe and comfortable space for all players. Communication is always open—players are welcome to reach out to me before, during, or after the session to discuss any concerns. During the game, I include regular breaks of 5 minutes, and I’m happy to extend or add more if needed to ensure everyone stays comfortable and engaged. Before the session begins, I go over rules, expectations, and boundaries, including a Lines and Veils document to set limits for sensitive content. X, N, & O signals can be used digitally (messaged or shown on video) to communicate boundaries during play. After the session, there will be a debrief/check-in to see how everyone is feeling and to provide any needed aftercare, giving space to process intense scenes or discuss anything that came up during the game.My goal is to foster a trusting and open environment where everyone can enjoy the story, engage fully with the adventure, and feel safe exploring the game.
