About the adventure
The Realm was built in the bones of a lost age. Once, the world Before raised towers of glass and steel, commanded impossible machines, and filled the night with neon light. Then something broke. Now castles, markets, shrines, and strongholds rise inside the ruins of that fallen technomagical civilization. People live by wood, stone, iron, courage, and whatever relics from Before can still be awakened. You are one of the Neon Knights: elite protectors of the Realm. When tyrants march, dragons descend, ancient machines stir, or forgotten weapons awaken beneath the earth, you mount your neon Steed and ride out. This is a heroic Fate science-fantasy campaign about bold action, strange ruins, desperate defenses, and righteous defiance against doom. You might race across shattered highways on a two-wheeled technomagical Steed, defend a village built into the husk of an ancient factory, parley with a warlord beneath dead signal towers, or descend into a sealed ruin where the lights have been waiting centuries to turn back on. Expect: ⚔️ Cinematic Fate action with swords, blasters, relic weapons, magic, and impossible machines 🏰 A Realm we help define together, filled with people and places worth protecting 🏍️ Neon Steeds, ruined cities, fortified strongholds, dragons, tyrants, and secrets from Before 🔥 Heroic stakes: danger, sacrifice, victory at a cost, and last stands when the bells sound 🎲 Rules-light, fiction-first play where clever ideas, dramatic choices, and character aspects matter The tone is bold, mythic, colorful, and adventurous. “Heavy metal” here means storm skies, glowing weapons, ancient ruins, impossible threats, and heroes riding into danger with fire in their eyes. It is not grimdark misery, parody, or exploitative shock. New Fate players are welcome. I will teach the rules as we play. You do not need to know the setting in advance. We will build enough of the Realm together to make it feel like your home, then put it in danger and see what kind of Knights answer the call. When the Realm is threatened, the Knights ride out.

About me
Collaborating with players to create background and backstory is what I enjoy most. Creating a great character-driven narrative that we will tell for years is my goal. My preference is for RPG systems that support the story and also allow for players to have the option to succeed at a cost, driving the story to a climactic finish where all those checks must be paid. RPGs work best when it's like a jazz ensemble, where the whole group plays together most of the time but everyone gets a chance to step forward for their solo from time to time. I'm available for a custom session or campaign. I can put together a quality one-shot in a few days if it's a system on my list. If it’s not on my list, it may be similar to something I already know, so please feel free to ask anyway.

Creating your character
Your Knight will not be created in isolation. In Session 0, we will build the Realm together, then create the Knights sworn to defend it. Fate works best when characters are made at the table, with the other players present, because your choices help define the world, the group, and the dangers we want to see in play. Come with ideas, images, inspirations, or a rough concept if you like. A wandering blade with a haunted past. A noble champion with too much pride. A former scavenger who earned knighthood the hard way. A techno-mystic duelist. A shield-bearing defender of the poor. A reckless rider whose Steed burns brighter than is safe. Or come with nothing but curiosity. We will build from there. In Neon Knights, you are not starting as random adventurers looking for coin. You are elite protectors of the Realm, veterans who have already proven themselves worthy of the title. You have a place in the world. You have people to defend. You have a Steed, colors, armaments, a reputation, and a reason the Realm calls on you when doom appears on the horizon. During Session 0, we will create: ⚔️ The Realm What kind of land do you protect? A city built in the bones of Before? A chain of fortress-towns? A ruined kingdom lit by sacred neon towers? We will decide what makes the Realm worth saving and what threatens to destroy it. 🛡️ Your Knight Who are you when the bells sound and the order comes to ride out? We will define your history, your style, your strengths, your flaws, and the legend already forming around you. 🔥 Your Mighty Deed Every Knight has already done something worthy of song, rumor, or fear. What proved you belonged among the Realm’s greatest defenders? 💀 Your Tragic Flaw Great heroes are not perfect. What weakness, wound, pride, oath, fear, or temptation follows you into battle? 🏍️ Your Steed Each Knight rides a personal two-wheeled technomagical Steed: part mount, part relic, part signature of your legend. What does yours look like? How does it sound when it wakes? What makes it yours? 🎲 Your Fate Rules We will assign approaches, aspects, stunts, equipment, and the other game-mechanical details together. New Fate players are welcome. I will walk everyone through the process step by step. The goal is not to show up with the “perfect build.” The goal is to create a Knight who belongs to this Realm, matters to the other characters, and makes us excited to find out what happens when the darkness gathers and the order is given: Ride out.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You do not need to know Neon Knights or Fate before joining. I will teach the rules as we play, and Session 0 will include both Realm creation and character creation. Please come prepared with: ⚔️ A working microphone and Discord access We will use Discord for voice. Video is not required. 🎲 A free Roll20 account We will play on Roll20. I provide the table, character sheets, dice, maps, tokens, handouts, and visual aids. 🧠 A willingness to create together Character creation happens during Session 0. You may bring ideas, images, or inspirations, but please do not arrive with a finished character. Fate works best when characters are built together and connected to the Realm, the other Knights, and the campaign’s threats. 🔥 A heroic science-fantasy mindset You are playing one of the Realm’s elite protectors. Expect bold action, strange ruins, dramatic choices, dangerous enemies, and people worth defending. 📖 No required reading You do not need to own or read the rules. If you have access to Neon Knights and want to look it over, great, but it is not required. Please also review the game description, content warnings, and safety tools before joining. The tone is cinematic, mythic, and adventurous: high-stakes danger and heroic defiance, not grimdark misery or shock-value play.
What Ukulele Mike brings to the table
I provide everything needed to play. You only need Discord, Roll20, a microphone, and a willingness to ride out. ⚔️ A prepared Roll20 table I provide the Roll20 game space, character sheets, dice support, handouts, visual references, tokens, maps, and any play aids we need at the table. 🏰 Realm creation support In Session 0, I will guide the group through creating our Realm together: what it looks like, who lives there, what makes it worth protecting, and what threats are gathering against it. 🛡️ Character creation guidance We will create Knights together using the Neon Knights rules. I will walk everyone through aspects, approaches, stunts, equipment, Steeds, Mighty Deeds, Tragic Flaws, and anything else needed to make your character ready for play. 🎲 Rules teaching during play You do not need to know Fate or Neon Knights before joining. I will explain the rules clearly as they come up and help you understand how to use aspects, Fate Points, create advantages, and make dramatic choices. 🌌 Cinematic science-fantasy adventure I prepare the threats, locations, factions, mysteries, ruins, enemies, and consequences that bring the Realm to life: tyrants, dragons, ancient machines, fortified strongholds, strange relics from Before, and people who need the Knights to stand for them. 🖼️ Custom visual atmosphere I use curated and custom imagery to help establish tone: neon-lit ruins, fortified cities, technomagical Steeds, ancient machinery, dangerous wastes, and the lived-in places of the Realm. 🤝 A welcoming table culture I provide a friendly, respectful game space with clear safety tools, room for player ideas, and a focus on making every Knight matter. The goal is bold, mythic, adventurous play where the party’s choices shape the Realm and the story. When the bells sound and doom gathers on the horizon, I’ll provide the road, the danger, and the world worth saving. You bring the Knight.

Safety
How Ukulele Mike creates a safe table
I want this game to feel bold, exciting, and dangerous in the fiction while staying respectful and comfortable for the players at the table. We will use the following safety tools: Session 0 Before play begins, we will create characters, build the Realm, discuss tone, review content warnings, and make sure everyone is on the same page about the kind of heroic science-fantasy campaign we want to play. Lines & Veils Lines are content we do not include in the game. Veils are content that may exist in the story but stays off-screen or is handled only briefly. Lines and Veils can be added or adjusted at any time. X-Card If something in play is uncomfortable, you can use the X-Card by saying “X-card,” typing an X in chat, or messaging me privately. We will pause, rewind, redirect, or skip the content. You do not need to explain why. Open Door You are always free to step away from the table for any reason. No explanation is required. Real life, stress, fatigue, or discomfort always comes first. Breaks We will take a short break during the session. Players are also welcome to ask for a break if they need one. Stars & Wishes At the end of sessions, players can share Stars for things they enjoyed and Wishes for things they would like to see more of in future play. This helps shape the campaign around what the table finds exciting. The goal is a table where we can ride into danger, face impossible threats, and tell dramatic stories together while making sure every player feels respected and welcome.
