About the adventure
Throughout the North, the ground trembles. Boulders fall from clouds in the sky. Massive holes are appearing across the vast wilderness. Towns are being not just razed, but dismantled. And, amidst all this, a group of friends sets out from Waterdeep toward a small frontier outpost not far away in search of their first adventure, oblivious to the part they have yet to play. Welcome to Storm King's Thunder! This game is open to players of all skill levels, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned veteran. If you are new to this, it will be my pleasure to guide you through whatever steps you need to make your way through the game. If this isn't your first rodeo, I look forward to new ideas and unexpected solutions. At the end of the day, we're all here to have a good time, so if the thoughts of exploration, navigating intrigue, uncovering ancient lore, and standing tall against taller odds excites you, then you're in the right place. I run a fairly balanced game between roleplay and combat. Work together, and you just might make it through this. Remember, though; your choices matter, and giants have long memories.

About me
I have been playing TTRPGs for about 35 years and running games for over 30 of those, starting with AD&D and dabbling with other systems (GURPS, Robotech, Shadowrun 2E, Pathfinder) before finally coming back to D&D 5E after a hiatus during COVID. I have a regular home game with the same group I've been playing with for nearly 20 years, but I have run games for several different groups during that time. I tend to stick to published material for my games, as I consider myself more of a storyteller than a composer of stories. As an accomplished vocalist, I am also experienced with using my voice as a tool, and I do try whenever possible to give distinct voices to the more significant characters I have to portray. My proudest moment as a GM was when I took the story and events of Baldur's Gate 2 and converted it to a tabletop version for D&D 3.5E as a passion project. That game ran for a little over 2 years, and was a great time for all.

Creating your character
Characters will be created prior to the first session on D&D Beyond at 1st level using the point-buy method. Please exclude 5E Core Rules and Legacy/Noncore content. Please run any partnered content by me prior to using. I will touch base with you after joining to go over character creation in more detail.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a PC, as well as accounts on D&D Beyond and Discord. We will be using D&D Beyond Maps for VTT purposes. They will also need a microphone; cameras are encouraged, though not required.
What Matt Ramos brings to the table
I use character voices to set important NPCs apart, and I will sometimes use them for less important ones, as well. Combat in my games is tactical, and I will be using battle maps for it. I tend to stick to the rules as written for the most part, but I can be swayed to allow something truly inspired.
Homebrew rules
I do not plan to use any homebrew rules in this campaign.

How Matt Ramos creates a safe table
We will have a session 0 (free of charge) where we discuss any specific issues or triggers to be avoided, as well as introduce characters to one another, since your party will already be established, though inexperienced. Players are encouraged to raise concerns as they happen so they can be addressed. I also incorporate a break into each session to check in on everyone (and because sometimes people just need to take care of something quick), and we usually do a quick session debrief at the end.
