About the adventure

Japan, 1986. The Bubble Era is in full swing. Neon-lit Tokyo surges toward the future while ancient temples, old traditions, and forgotten folklore endure beneath the surface. But something else is spreading—a mysterious scripture known as the Sutra of Pale Leaves, appearing in strange and unexpected forms. Those who encounter it may find that some ideas are impossible to forget. Across Japan, you will investigate mysteries that lead from quiet towns and ancient temples to manga culture, Tokyo nightlife, urban legends, dreams, and places where reality no longer behaves as it should. Behind them waits the influence of the King in Yellow—and a conspiracy whose reach grows with every new manifestation of the Sutra. This is a long-form Call of Cthulhu campaign focused on investigation, atmosphere, roleplay, and player choice rather than combat. Clever ideas are rewarded, mysteries can be approached in different ways, and your decisions—and their consequences—carry forward as the campaign unfolds. No knowledge of Call of Cthulhu, Japanese history, or the King in Yellow is required. New investigators are welcome: I teach the rules through play, so all you need is a character willing to follow the mystery and discover how deep the Pale Leaves have spread.

About me

👋 Hello, I’m Leo — a professional Game Master specializing in immersive horror roleplaying. With over 24 years of experience, I focus on delivering tense, atmospheric games built around investigation, dread, and meaningful player choice. My tables are designed for players who want suspense, strong narrative cohesion, and stories that linger long after the session ends. If you’re looking for carefully paced horror, deep immersion, and a GM who treats the game seriously while keeping it fun and welcoming — you’re in the right place. 🕯️ My Specialization: Horror & Investigative Play Horror is my main focus and strongest discipline. I specialize in games where atmosphere, mystery, and tension drive the experience: 🕵️ Call of Cthulhu – My signature system. From classic 1920s investigations to modern cosmic horror, I emphasize slow-burn dread, strong clues, and player-driven discovery. 🕶️ Delta Green – Psychological and conspiracy horror, where paranoia, secrecy, and moral pressure are as dangerous as the Mythos itself. 👽 ALIEN RPG – Cinematic survival horror in space: lethal, intense, and tightly paced, inspired by the tone of the films. My games prioritize investigation, character perspective, and narrative tension over mechanical complexity or power gaming. 🌍 About Me I’m bilingual — fluent in Spanish (native) and English — originally from Venezuela and currently based in Chile. I’ve run games for players across the USA, UK, and Spain, and I adapt my style to match each group’s experience level and expectations. I’m also a published writer, with three Call of Cthulhu scenarios released on Chaosium’s Miskatonic Repository, where my work has been praised for atmosphere, pacing, and table usability. 💡 What You Can Expect at My Table 🌑 Beginner-Friendly Horror – New players are welcome; I enjoy teaching systems and easing people into horror roleplaying. 🎭 Immersive Presentation – Atmospheric narration, music, and visual support when appropriate. 🧩 Player-Driven Investigation – Your choices matter; clever thinking is rewarded. ⏱️ Professional Reliability – Clear communication, preparation, and respect for everyone’s time. 🔥 Why Choose Me? 🕯️ Horror Specialist – Decades of experience running investigative and atmospheric horror. 📚 Published & Proven – Officially released Call of Cthulhu scenarios with real table use. 🎲 Narrative-First GMing – Focus on tension, mood, and meaningful decisions. 🤝 Respectful & Inclusive – A safe, collaborative table where everyone gets a voice. Ready to uncover dark secrets, face cosmic terror, or struggle to survive against impossible odds? Browse my available games or send me a message — I’d be glad to bring your next horror story to life. Let’s make something unforgettable together.

Character creation

Creating your character

We’ll create investigators together during Session Zero, giving everyone a chance to meet the group, establish connections between characters, and make sure they fit the campaign. You can create your own investigator or use one of the campaign’s pregenerated characters. Investigators can come from almost any background or profession and do not need to be Japanese, but they must be able to speak Japanese. We’ll use the standard Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition character creation rules. New players are welcome—I’ll guide you through the entire process, so no additional books or prior knowledge of the system or 1980s Japan are required.

What Leopoldo "Leovor" Rueda brings to the table

✅ 23+ years of GM experience across multiple systems and genres, with a focus on immersive storytelling, player agency, and keeping the game moving. ✅ A fully prepared Roll20 experience with maps, handouts, Dynamic Lighting, character sheets, and campaign material integrated into the VTT. ✅ Visuals, Theater of the Mind, music, and SFX to build atmosphere without letting the VTT get in the way of imagination. ✅ Distinct NPC personalities and voices, with Voicemod Pro used selectively to enhance supernatural or memorable narrative moments. ✅ Player choices matter. I reward creative ideas and good roleplay, and I'm comfortable making quick, fair rulings rather than stopping the game to hunt through a rulebook. ✅ Investigation over predetermined solutions. I present the situation and clues; how you approach the mystery is up to you. ✅ Beginner-friendly play. You don't need to memorize the rules—I’ll teach what you need as it comes up and handle the mechanical heavy lifting when necessary.

Safety

How Leopoldo "Leovor" Rueda creates a safe table

I handle safety through clear expectations, open communication, and mutual respect rather than formal safety-card systems. During Session Zero, we'll discuss the campaign's mature horror themes, establish the tone of the game, and make sure everyone understands the kind of experience they're joining. The Sutra of Pale Leaves is a horror campaign and may include disturbing imagery, violence, death, psychological horror, obsession, loss of control, and other unsettling themes. I don't use X-Cards or similar formal safety mechanics at my table. Instead, I rely on open communication and mutual respect. If something unexpected becomes genuinely uncomfortable during play, let me know—either at the table or privately. We can stop, take a break, talk about it, and decide how to proceed. My goal is to run horror that can be disturbing and frightening in the fiction, while maintaining a respectful and comfortable environment between the real people at the table.
