About the adventure
Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk A classic D&D adventure that slowly becomes something much stranger. The frontier town of Phandalin is a place where an adventurer can make a name for themselves. Nestled among the foothills of the Sword Mountains, the little mining settlement has seen more than its share of trouble. Bandits prey upon travelers. Goblins haunt the old roads. Forgotten ruins hide treasures left untouched for centuries. Somewhere in the surrounding wilderness lies the legendary Wave Echo Cave—and the lost secrets of Phandelver. It sounds like exactly the sort of place a group of aspiring adventurers could find fortune. At first, your problems will be familiar ones. Missing travelers. Goblin ambushes. Criminal gangs. Dangerous wilderness. Ancient ruins. Monsters guarding forgotten treasures. But something is changing beneath Phandalin. People are behaving strangely. Creatures are appearing that don’t belong in the natural world. Odd fragments of black stone have begun surfacing, and those who spend too much time around them sometimes hear things that aren’t there. Something ancient was shattered long ago. Now someone is putting the pieces back together. Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk begins as a traditional fantasy adventure before gradually descending into mystery, strange magic, underground exploration, and cosmic horror. Characters who begin their journey protecting a small frontier town may eventually find themselves fighting for far more than Phandalin. What to Expect ⚔️ Levels 1–12 — Watch your character grow from a fledgling adventurer into a hero capable of confronting threats that could reshape the region. 🗺️ Exploration & Dungeon Crawling — Forgotten mines, ancient ruins, monster lairs, subterranean settlements, and places that perhaps should have remained undiscovered. 🎭 Roleplaying & Recurring NPCs — Phandalin isn’t just a quest hub. You’ll meet its residents, build relationships, make enemies, and watch the town change because of your decisions. 🔎 Mystery — Strange events slowly reveal a much larger threat. Paying attention, investigating clues, and asking the right questions can matter just as much as swinging a sword. 🐉 Classic D&D — Goblins, bandits, treasure, dangerous monsters, magical discoveries, and plenty of opportunities for heroic—or spectacularly foolish—decisions. 👁️ A Descent Into the Strange — The deeper you go, the less familiar the adventure becomes. Expect unsettling discoveries, aberrations, psychic phenomena, body horror, and forces from beyond the ordinary world. This campaign is welcoming to both new and experienced D&D players. You don’t need to know anything about Phandalin, the Forgotten Realms, or the original Lost Mine of Phandelver. Bring a character looking for adventure. Phandalin will give you one. What you find beneath it is another matter entirely.
