About the adventure

Draw Steel is a heroic tactical fantasy game, similar to Dungeons & Dragons in tone and setting. The Delian Tomb is an introductory adventure designed to familiarize players with the game mechanics and introduce the lore of the world. We will also utilize the Draw Steel Codex, a VTT designed specifically for the game system. While the system is designed for tactical combat, this campaign will involve roleplay and improv in order to give weight, context, and meaning to those combats. If the group enjoys the system and setting, we will move beyond the Delian Tomb into an expanded campaign.

About me

Hello! I'm Neal, and I've been playing and running RPGs since high school. I love roleplaying and entertaining, and I've pursued a career in adjacent fields such as theatre and education, but with the rise of online gaming I've decided to take my hobby to the next level. I was born and raised in New York, where I worked in the theatre industry throughout my 20's until I decided it was time for a more radical change in scenery. I moved to the country of Georgia and became a teacher, drawing on my theatre experience to teach subjects such as Design and Drama. After more than a decade teaching, the pandemic showed me that remote work was definitely my jam. I've been running games online since 2020 and I love the experience. I've set up a discord server and a cloud-hosted Foundry VTT installation, which I've tailored to my DMing style using a variety of add-on modules. My games are designed to be approachable and beginner-friendly and to foster meaningful roleplaying experiences in which player characters have an important place in the setting and players have the opportunity to add to the world with creative input.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players can choose from among the pre-generated Draw Steel heroes, with an option to customize these characters. Note that we will be using Draw Steel Codex, so players will need to log in with our campaign invite code to do this.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need Draw Steel Codex VTT - this is a one-time purchase ($20 on Steam) and internet access. We will also use Discord for voice calls.

What Neal Z brings to the table

This is an established group which has enjoyed Star Trek Adventures and Blades in the Dark. We are very friendly and welcoming to new players, and have a good rapport with each other. We enjoy exploring systems and ideas, roleplaying, and collaborative problem-solving. As a GM I enjoy improv, embracing the "yes, and" style of gameplay, and practicing the flexibility to run each system according to the style of the table, adding in various elements as needed to facilitate a great experience.

Homebrew rules

We will be playing Draw Steel according to the rules as written. I do ask players to remain engaged, listen to each other, bring a collaborative approach, share the spotlight, and support the team.

Safety

How Neal Z creates a safe table

We will maintain a list of Lines and Veils and review it as necessary. We take one 15-minute break during each session, and set aside time for Stars and Wishes at the end of each session.
