About the adventure
This game is intended for new players! Learn the ropes of D&D with the Lost Mine of Phandelver campaign straight from the Starter Set. Create your own characters or choose from preexisting ones. Ideal for 4-5 players, but can be modified for groups of other sizes. You will play as a group of adventurers searching for the famous Lost Mine of Phandelver, the key to returning civilization to the area. However, dark forces seek to control the mine for their own profit. You are quested to find the mine for the sake of the people and defeat the evil forces that plague the land. On the way you might: fight a dragon, befriend a halfling, rescue a knight, appease a ghost, and much, much more!

About me
I began playing dnd in 2020, just my friends and I. Since then, we have all learned to love the game and our weekly sessions. I am only familiar with D&D 5E, but I am willing to branch out to other systems if people express interest. I have a preference for classic fantasy settings with swords and magic, but I have participated in other settings both as a GM and as a player. I believe that TTRPG play is the most fun and engaging when every player gets a share of the spotlight as we work towards a common goal, and my DM style reflects that.

Creating your character
Characters will be created during the first session of the game. Please bring a blank character sheet (you can find them on the first link or two on Google) and a pencil. You will also need a set of D&D dice, which you can buy for cheap on Amazon, or you can use digital dice for free (like on Google or Roll20).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need the following accounts: StartPlaying, Roll20, and Discord. StartPlaying is used to book sessions and for payment. Every player needs a StartPlaying account even if you are in the same household. Roll20 is where the actual games will be held. This is a virtual table top where battles and role play will take place. Roll20 requires a reliable internet connection and a microphone. I also suggest using a webcam, as that makes play easier, but it is not required. Some days, Roll20 acts glitchy or is completely down. While this is a rare occurrence, it is good to plan for just in case. On those rare days, we will use Discord as a substitute. Other necessities: please bring your character sheet to every session. I also recommend having a way to record notes about what happens every session, like using a notepad and pencil or typing on a laptop.
What Josh Hill brings to the table
I will provide my 6 years of D&D experience to curate an introduction campaign fit for any interested persons. I will help you lean the game from the ground up, including: character creation, rules of play, combat, role play, and more. You can expect maps that make combat engaging, fun voices that are (hopefully) unique to each character you will meet, and music that makes you feel like you are actually exploring the Forgotten Realms (the setting the game takes place in).
Homebrew rules
This campaign will use minimum homebrew, as it is intended to teach new players the rules.

How Josh Hill creates a safe table
The first session of the game, called session 0, is not just about character creation. It is also about meeting the other players, discussing the topics the game will cover, and covering topics the players are comfortable or uncomfortable playing with. Each group is unique, to the rules created at each session zero are unique. However, common rules include: respecting the other players and the GM, letting every player have time to shine, and being punctual for each game session.
