About the adventure

Welcome to Cyraveth, the City of a Thousand Lights. For three centuries, Aetherglass has transformed this ancient fantasy city into a sprawling arcane metropolis. Magical rail lines race between towering districts, construct Striders carry travelers through crowded streets, Callglass devices send voices across the city, and crystal-powered technology has placed wonders once reserved for powerful mages into the hands of ordinary people. But lately, something has gone wrong. Aetherglass conduits rupture without warning. Citizens across the city report sharing the same impossible dreams. Constructs abandon their assigned routes. Entire neighborhoods suddenly lose power while the Ninefold Assembly insists everything is under control. When a catastrophic blackout sends an Aetherrail carriage crashing into a forgotten station buried beneath the streets, your characters discover evidence that Cyraveth's problems run much deeper than anyone realizes. This is a cinematic Daggerheart campaign focused on urban adventure, exploration, mystery, roleplay, faction intrigue, and dangerous combat. You'll explore everything from brilliant towers and crowded marketplaces to abandoned neighborhoods buried beneath the modern city. The choices you make will determine who learns the truth, which factions gain power, and ultimately what becomes of Cyraveth itself. The original campaign emphasizes that Aetherglass genuinely improved life in Cyraveth, rather than making the city a straightforward dystopia. Its central tension is discovering what supports that beauty, who has paid its hidden cost, and what happens when the city can no longer ignore the truth.

About me

I’ve been a Dungeon Master for over 10 years, and in that time I’ve learned that the best games live somewhere between careful planning and absolute chaos. My style blends organized storytelling, detailed worldbuilding, and quick improv at the table. I take meticulous notes, track player choices, and love building stories that feel personal to the characters. I want your decisions to matter, your backstory to show up in meaningful ways, and your victories to feel earned. I’m a big believer in atmosphere, roleplay, and memorable NPCs. I love doing character voices, bringing scenes to life, and using my background in stage acting to make the world feel more alive. Whether you’re negotiating with a suspicious noble, crawling through a haunted ruin, or making a terrible deal with something that should have stayed buried, I want the table to feel pulled into the moment. Outside of the game, I run a podcast and create original TTRPG content, including homebrew adventures, mechanics, monsters, and settings. My main homebrew world is Alaria, a low-fantasy, dark, gritty setting filled with ancient secrets, dangerous magic, political tension, and hard choices. At my table, new players are welcome, veteran players are challenged, and everyone gets a chance to shine. I run games with a strong focus on story, character, tension, and fun. If you want a campaign that feels cinematic, reactive, and full of mystery, danger, and heart, I’d love to roll dice with you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at Level 1 using the Daggerheart rules. All standard Daggerheart classes, subclasses, ancestries, and communities are welcome. Cyraveth is a large cosmopolitan city, so nearly any character concept can find a place here. This campaign also includes optional setting-specific material, including the Tymbral ancestry, Aetherglass equipment, Conduit Arms, and other character options that I will provide to the group. During Session 0, we'll create characters together and establish how each character fits into Cyraveth. Every character should have at least one person, neighborhood, organization, or place within the city they genuinely care about. We'll also establish connections between the party and collaboratively add a few neighborhoods, NPCs, rumors, and locations to our version of Cyraveth. You do not need to arrive at Session 0 with a completed character. A rough concept is more than enough. That collaborative city-building approach is baked directly into the campaign frame. Each player is intended to contribute a home neighborhood, important location, local NPC, Aetherrail stop, and rumor about what lies beneath the city.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need: A free Discord account for voice chat and campaign communication. A working microphone and stable internet connection. A Daggerheart character sheet made using Heart of Daggers so we can all be connected to the campaign page. No previous Daggerheart experience is required. If you're new to the system, I'm happy to help you learn as we play. Before Session 0, I recommend coming with a loose idea of the kind of character you'd like to play and thinking about one simple question: What does your character love about Cyraveth? We'll build everything else together.

What Christian Sullivan brings to the table

I'll provide everything needed to experience Cyraveth as a living campaign setting, including: -Original maps and locations -Hand-made battle maps -Ambient music and sound effects -NPC voices -Original adversaries and encounters -Setting guides and player handouts -Custom Aetherglass equipment -Conduit Arms -Callglass communication devices -Construct Striders and Aetherrail travel -Optional character options unique to Cyraveth -A campaign that responds to player choices rather than following a predetermined script My games balance roleplay and combat, with combat leaning cinematic and tactical. I generally follow the rules while embracing the Rule of Cool when it creates a memorable moment without stepping on another character's abilities.

Homebrew rules

This campaign uses the standard Daggerheart rules alongside original material created specifically for Cyraveth: City of a Thousand Lights. The largest additions are setting-specific rather than replacements for the core rules. These include Aetherglass-powered equipment, Conduit Arms, Callglass communication, construct vehicles known as Striders, the Aetherrail, custom adversaries and environments, and several campaign mechanics tied to the instability of Aetherglass. The campaign introduces Resonance, representing increasing exposure and connection to unstable Aetherglass, as well as City Strain, which tracks the deteriorating condition of Cyraveth as events unfold. I will explain any homebrew mechanics before they become relevant, and players will have access to the campaign's player-facing rules. The frame deliberately introduces these systems as additions to Daggerheart rather than trying to rewrite its core gameplay.

Safety

How Christian Sullivan creates a safe table

This game will generally sit around a PG-13 rating, occasionally pushing toward R territory for violence, unsettling imagery, or darker themes rather than sexual content. We'll use Session 0 to discuss everyone's boundaries before the campaign begins. Lines and Veils will establish subjects that should either never appear or remain off-screen, and the X-Card will always be available during play. Players never need to justify using a safety tool. Because Cyraveth includes mysteries involving political corruption, magical contamination, industrial accidents, and potentially disturbing transformations, we'll also discuss how strongly the group wants those elements portrayed before they appear. The goal is adventurous fantasy with moments of darkness and tension, not a campaign designed to make players uncomfortable.
