Curse of Strahd Reimagined | D&D 5.5 (Opt. homebrew rebalance)

Everyone has heard the tales of Strahd even outside the mist-walled country of Barovia. But within the mists, something seems different, tragic even.

About the adventure

This is a game about Baraovia and its curse in the form of Strahd. But this story is a little different than the tales you've heard. The legends say that Strahd was a jealous and callous man who wanted the beautiful Titania and could not accept rejection, thus turning him into a vampire so he could force her hand with his terrible magics. But the true story is far more tragic, for Strahd does not seek Titania's love or soul any longer, but instead that of his daughter, for every step of that story has been twisted.

About me

hello! My name is Caden Morse (Caden meaning friend in Irish and spirit of battle in Welsh, and Morse being Walrus in French). I've been into TTRPGs ever since high school and started GMing right out the gate, mostly because no one else wanted to, and I just wanted to play the games really badly. But I have discovered that I actually enjoy GMing these days even more than being a player! It's super fun for me to play the villain and come up with dastardly plots, while at the same time world-building, tying player stories together, and even just messing with the party to keep things interesting. In my games, I am a firmly Rule of Cool type DM; if a player's idea serves the story, is in character, is fun, or simply makes more sense in the situation than the normal rules do, I am 100% up for it. At this point, I have done so much homebrew I've lost track of everything; I've done everything from creating new magic items and monsters to making subclasses to rebalancing whole spell lists and creating a whole new system for martials to feel more powerful and impactful. I've even gone as far as to rebalance the stat systems in some games. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm honestly well on my way to trying my hand at creating a whole new TTRPG system from scratch. Whatever I end up doing, my focus will always be on player experience and helping create memorable moments. TTRPGs are meant for players of all kinds to come together and have fun telling a story!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation can be done in person with my personal help or by giving me your character and letting me review it. My preference is to roll stats in person, one stat roll, and every character uses the same numbers to equalize character power potential.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord, Roll20, and D&D Beyond accounts are preferred.

What Destructive Force brings to the table

I can do minimal voice acting for NPCs (but I'm getting better!). I will pick mostly generic background and battle music. I can customize combat difficulty to player preference. And I definitely embrace the rule of cool and rule of plot more than anything else.

Homebrew rules

I have a Large selection of homebrew rules that seek to balance player power and spell power. All of these rules can be discused nd are optional.

How Destructive Force creates a safe table

I always use an extensive session 0 for my games. How long the session 0 takes varies from group to group, and more often than not, we can begin the game in the same session as the session 0 discussions.
