About the adventure

High in the branches of the great forest, the tree-city of Alderheart has always looked down on the world below. Its birdfolk rule the Wood with feathered grace and polite disdain, while the humblefolk scratch out their lives among the roots. Far out, near the Scorched Grove, mysterious fires are turning families into kindling while the Alderheart Council does nothing. Old rivalries resurface from the ashes. The Bandit Coalition swells its ranks. And the Wood grows more dangerous by the day. When the Wood itself is dying, the birdfolk of Alderheart and the outlaws of the Bandit Coalition will have to decide what they hate more: each other, or the fire coming for them all Will you be able to bring about peace between Alderheart and the Bandits Coalition? Or will you watch both sides burn? Humblewood is ©️Copyright Hit Point Press. Learn more at Humblewood.com!

About me

Greetings! My name is Ryan, I have around 8 years of experience with Dungeons and Dragons 5e, most of which was off and on. Around 4 years ago however, I began DM-ing significantly more, running at least 2 games a week. Nonetheless, I have experience with both homebrew and module-based settings. I'm a rather easy-going DM all things considered, and a very staunch believer in "Flavor is free" and "The rule of cool."

Character creation

Creating your character

Character building should be done usually after a session 0, but before session 1. Stats will be determined through normal point buy. Character level will be determined during Session 0. I use DndBeyond for character sheets, and I use the Beyond 20 plugin to allow players to roll on DndBeyond, and to have their rolls show up on Roll 20. If a player has an alternative method they prefer, such as using Roll 20's character sheet system, players are more then welcome to use that instead. All official Dungeons and Dragons content is on the table. Anything beyond official content must be discussed prior to its use in game. I do also allow Pugilist, Illrigger, and Blood Hunter classes as well. I love working with players to make robust and influential backstories. One of my favorite parts of being a Dungeon Master is finding creative ways to tie in backstories into other settings. The more backstory you are willing to build, the more I have to use!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

In order to play, players will need the following. 1, Discord. Games are run on a personal Dungeons and Dragons server. 2, Roll 20. A Roll 20 account is free, if anyone needs help setting up their roll 20, I will personally help on Session 0. 3, Preferred Character Sheet system. I recommend DNDBeyond, as I am able to share my content with players. If you are using DNDBeyond, players should install the Beyond 20 plugin.

What Ryan brings to the table

Content wise, players that use DNDBeyond can join my campaign on there. On DNDBeyond, the following sources are available to players. Tasha's cauldron of everything Xanthars guide to everything Van Richtens guide to Ravenloft Strixhaven, a Curriculum of Chaos The Players Handbook The Illrigger Revised (MCDM) Volo's guide to monsters Monsters of the Multiverse Fizbans Treasury of Dragons Humblewood. Players will also have ambient music, battle music, tactical and dynamic combat, character voices, and a diverse storytelling experience! While I do try to remain within the confines of the rules, on occasion the Rule of Cool comes up whenever the situation calls!

Homebrew rules

Any and all homebrew rules will be voted on the first session. Homebrew rules only come into play if they are unanimously approved by the party. In addition, players who find something interesting are welcome to pitch ideas for homebrew rules later in the game. Once an idea is pitched, players will vote on if they wish to incorporate a homebrew rule into the campaign.

Safety

How Ryan creates a safe table

Safety and comfort is the primary concern at this table! Players will be given a consent checklist when they join the server. Upon it being filled out, players will send the checklist to me personally ensuring that any limitations anyone has remain confidential. I also use a Stars and Wishes system (Although I call them Grows and Glows) Grows are things that could have been better and things you did not enjoy about a session, but they can also be things you are looking forward too, or things you wish came up that didn't. Glows are what you liked about a session and things you enjoyed I also have an open door policy. It does not matter if it is 3 in the morning or 4 in the afternoon. Although I may not respond immediately, players are always welcome to toss me a message on discord about anything concerning them. In addition, I do make an effort to remain aware of any messages sent from players during a session. If you need help, support, or to vent about something, my door is always open, and always confidential. In my games, there is also a small break. Players will get to decide between themselves between a 5, 10, and 15 minute break each session roughly around the halfway point.
