About the adventure

THE START You gather in a forest of borders: the Ormatt. It separates the kingdom to its west from the wildlands to its east. The two view each other with suspicion, but beneath the leaves, they cautiously blend together. But politics are the last things on locals' minds—the forest is growing ill, and no one is sure why. Will you be the one to solve this mystery? And once that is done, where will you go? Do you aspire to control a barony? Or seek to discover the rumored cities of the wilds? YOUR CHARACTER This campaign starts at level 1 and will go all the way to level 20. Thinking about your character, who have you been so far, and who do you hope to become? Then, what brings you to the Ormatt? Are you an outcast from the rigid society of the west? An exiled druid from the east? An explorer, seeking lost ruins to answer questions of what came before? Or is the Ormatt your home? Do you know one or more of the other characters, or are you meeting them for the first time? We will begin the campaign with a Session 0 to start answering all these questions, so you don't have to decide everything ahead of time. THE WORLD East of the Ormatt is the Yobiwara, a vast expanse of wilderness containing nomadic tribes, ancient shrines to the spirits of nature, and (it’s rumored) cities buried beneath wave or vine. To the west is Grondjem, a classic kingdom with titles, vassals and lieges, and a pantheon of 9 gods. Other states border it, but it is the realm that looms large in this campaign. There is plenty more to discover, but that can all wait until the game begins. The best lore dumps are the ones pulled from the depths of a treasure chest.

About me

I've been GMing and playing ttrpgs at least weekly for the past 8 years. D&D 5th edition is where I spend the bulk of my time, but I've also played in/run other systems such as Wildsea, Shadowdark, Daggerheart, Nimble, Starfinder, etc. I've DM'd multi-year campaigns with a consistent group as well as brief community mini campaigns and one-shots with rotating players. My focus as a DM is on story, but I pride myself on encyclopedic rules knowledge (that I'm nonetheless willing to bend if it maximizes the fun at the table). I run custom campaigns far more often than published modules, and am most excited about telling stories *with* players, rather than *at* them. I have extensive experience creating mechanics, subclasses, items, and spells to match the stories players want to tell and characters they want to build, and am always excited when players come to me with ideas. Storytelling at my table is collaborative, and the players, the dice, and I are all equal partners. I am currently running: šŸ‘‘ Houses of Green: A full-length, character-focused D&D campaign within a world of feudal titles and druidic tribes. (1 seat left!) StartPlaying campaigns I've run in the past: šŸˆā€ā¬›Cat Bells & Lattes (x1): A cozy, low-stakes D&D campaign in which a group of adventurers settled down to open a shop. 🪼Scavengers Reign (x1): A sci-fi reskin of D&D in which players crash land on an alien planet teeming with life. 🌹Roses from Ruin (x1): A learn-to-play mini campaign for the eclectic Wildsea ttrpg.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will finalize character creation in our first session (Session 0), but you are welcome to create your level 1 character ahead of time using the parameters below. 1) Books. Anything from the Player's Handbook (2014 or 2024), Xanathar's, or Tasha's is permitted. Other sources may be allowed, just ask. 2) Races. This is fairly unrestricted. Let me know what you're thinking if it's outside the books above, but pretty much anything published for 5e should work in this campaign. If you have an idea for a character that doesn't exist, let me know and I'll happily homebrew something. 3) Ability Scores. You can roll stats or use the standard array/point buy. 4) Equipment. Use the starting equipment in the player's handbook OR buy your preferred equipment with the starting gold option. *) Help, I'm New and I Don't Know What Any of This Means! That's wonderful! Welcome to D&D, we're so excited to have you! Shoot me a message and I'll offer more explanation and walk through the steps with you.

The current party

We have completed session 0 and begun the adventure, but there's still room for more! The party so far consists of: Duncan MacTir - elven sorcerer of noble heritage. Kashila Glatsk - orc rogue seeking adventure and a rise from poverty. Korvin Runehammer - dwarf paladin seeking to protect against evil magic and those who wield it. Lovo Murdoc - human wizard, seeking to prove his theories on the workings of time.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have a Discord account and a setup that provides working video and audio. I will provide a Discord server link, which will be used for the video call. I'll also provide a link to the campaign in D&D Beyond. Players can create their character and roll dice there, but do not have to. Pen, paper, and physical dice are all just fine. No signups or downloads (other than Discord) are required for this campaign. For a virtual tabletop, I'll use a mix of D&D Maps and Owlbear rodeo, sharing my screen when necessary for any players that don't or can't have the map pulled up on their screen.

What Colten brings to the table

I will provide the setting: a living world with NPCs both ambitious and friendly, a history to be uncovered, and constant faction movement in the background. The party will receive several immediate hooks in session 1 which we can use to get the greater plot rolling, but this campaign will focus on the party's goals and stories. Where we end up on the map, and which factions we fight or befriend, are yours to decide.

How Colten creates a safe table

As part of their prep materials, players will be provided a link to a questionnaire that asks about their expectations, experience, and any lines/veils they may have. We'll also do stars and wishes at the end of sessions, along with general session debriefs. And communication throughout remains of top importance.
