About me

I am an independent TTRPG author and freelance writer with a deep passion for crafting immersive, character-driven stories. My work in the industry includes writing Pathfinder Society Scenario #7-16: A Star’s Journey for Paizo, as well as publishing independent adventures for Call of Cthulhu and Dungeons & Dragons under their community created content programs. When I’m not at the table, I analyze the mechanics and narratives of the hobby on my Substack, Insight Check. This background as a creator and analyst allows me to bring a high level of intentionality to every session, ensuring the pacing and atmosphere are always dialed in. I believe there is a seat for everyone in this hobby, and I enjoy tailoring my games to the players' needs: All-Ages Adventures: I offer engaging, heroic sessions in D&D, Pathfinder, 7th Sea, and the Marvel Multiverse RPG ideal for kids, families, and adults. Mature Horror (18+): I specialize in the atmospheric and the eerie, running systems like Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, Alien, and Cyberpunk for adult groups looking for a grittier experience. My goal is to help you inhabit a character you believe in within a world that feels alive. Whether you're a first-time player or a seasoned veteran, I look forward to creatinga story with you.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will use the pre-generated characters from the module. No need to create your own character. Choose from one of five characters ready made for the session and decide how you want to survive!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Prior to the game please make sure you have access to a free account on Roll20, a working microphone (headset recommended) and webcam (optional but preferred) and a quiet environment to play in. All rules and pre-generated characters are provided inside Roll20. No pre-game character creation or reading required. The game will have tense and quiet moments, possible sudden surprises, and moments where the team will all need to hear one another. Come ready to participate in a shared storytelling experience rife with fear and excitement!

What Adam Wright brings to the table

My goal is to deliver an authentic, high-tension cinematic experience where your choices drive the survival story. I lean into atmospheric dread, evocative scene-setting, and high-stakes decision-making, ensuring every player gets their moment in the spotlight. What You Can Expect at My Table: Atmosphere & Tension First: Immersive descriptions, distinct NPC interactions, and creeping suspense designed to capture the classic Alien feel. Cinematic Flexibility: I prioritize creative problem-solving over rigid rules-lawyering. If an idea is clever, dramatic, and fits the scene, let's see how the dice roll. Complete System Support: Patient, real-time rules guidance throughout play. You don't need to know the Year Zero engine or have any prior tabletop experience to thrive. Turnkey Setup: Fully integrated Roll20 tactical maps, tokens, character sheets, and secret personal agendas ready the moment you log in. Collaborative & Safe: A welcoming, inclusive space equipped with standard safety tools so the horror stays thrilling, respectful, and fun.

Homebrew rules

While I don't use custom homebrew rules for Alien: Evolved, I prioritize pacing and cinematic tension. When unique situations arise, I lean toward the Rule of Cool and choose narrative momentum over strict technicalities to keep the horror immersive and the tone consistent.

Safety

How Adam Wright creates a safe table

Horror is best when everyone feels secure and in control out of character. Before we begin, we will review our table expectations, content warnings (gore, body horror, jump scares, and intense claustrophobia), and establish any personal Lines and Veils. My goal is to put the characters through stressful situations but never cause true stress in the players. The Alien rules system includes built-in Panic and Stress mechanics where characters may freeze, flee, or react under extreme duress. We treat these strictly as fun narrative prompts for the characters, with clear separation between player comfort and character panic—you will never be pressured to roleplay anything outside your comfort zone. During the session, players can use X, N, and O signals at any time via video, voice, or private message to the GM with no questions asked. We will take scheduled mid-session breaks to decompress, and conclude with a brief debrief/aftercare chat at the end to de-escalate, step out of character, and ensure everyone leaves the session feeling great.
