About the adventure
We're using "Trapped in the Tropics" from the Starter Set as our one shot setting. You start at the absolute bottom. Marooned on the treacherous shores of Eel Island with nothing but the clothes on your backs and whatever meager gear you managed to scavenge before being thrown overboard. Your immediate goals are simple but brutal: Survive: Repel the British Regulars hunting you on the beach. Adapt: Scavenge the wreckage, brave the deadly jungle, and establish a foothold. Escape: Find a way off this cursed rock.

About me
I enjoy all kinds of board games and RPGs. As a GM I prefer theater of the mind to very detailed simulations. I enjoy puzzles and narrative arcs that are not simply combat based. I've been playing for many years. I enjoy virtual table tops but I tend to use very simple elements, I think sometimes virtual table tops make RPGs feel too much like an arcade game. I'm told I bring a lot of humor (mostly not twisted), to even the darkest most dangerous encounters and story arcs without robbing the story of their emotional heft.

Creating your character
We will create characters together at the beginning of the session. Pirate Borg's character generation is very simple and fast (compared to other systems) as player characters tend to die a lot.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
No prep is really necessary, but you should be familiar with role playing a character. You will need a computer with a high speed connection so we can communicate and share screens during the game. I keep it pretty simple: Discord channel for questions before and after the session, Google Meet will be used during the game, and I'll be screen sharing maps and tokens using OwlBear Rodeo/

How Larry creates a safe table
Table Safety and Setting Boundaries The goal of this document is simple: to help us create a game that is welcoming, comfortable, and fun for everyone at the table. I want this adventure to be tense, mysterious, and emotionally engaging without drifting into content that makes the experience worse for the people actually playing it. To support that, we’ll use Lines and Veils as our baseline safety framework. LINES AND VEILS Lines are hard boundaries. These are topics or situations that will not appear in the game. Veils are topics or situations that may exist in the world, but they will stay off-screen, be handled briefly, or fade to black rather than being described in detail. OUR AGREED BOUNDARIES LINES Gratuitous violence Danger and conflict are part of adventure gaming, but we will avoid excessive gore or lingering descriptions of suffering. Violence should serve the story, not overwhelm it. Sexual content Romantic subplots can exist if players want them to, but explicit sexual content and non-consensual situations are not part of this game. Harm to children or animals These themes will not appear in the adventure. Real-world prejudice Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or similar real-world forms of bigotry will not be included in the game. VEILS Romantic relationships If relationships between characters develop, they can be part of the story, but intimate moments will fade to black rather than being played out in detail. Torture or extreme suffering If these themes become relevant to the story, they will be implied rather than explicitly described. Death of major NPCs Loss and grief can matter in the story, but the focus will be on emotional impact rather than graphic detail. OPEN TABLE POLICY If a scene or topic starts to feel uncomfortable, any player can speak up at any time. You do not need to justify it, and you do not need to explain more than you want to. We can use any of the following tools during play: X-Card Say “X,” tap the table, or send a message in chat if we’re playing online. I will stop, rewind, or redirect the scene immediately. Pause and Check-In Anyone can ask for a brief pause to clarify, adjust, or soften a scene if something isn’t sitting right. ONGOING COMMUNICATION Before we begin, we’ll confirm these boundaries together and make space for any additions or adjustments players want to make. This document is not meant to be fixed forever. If something changes, or if a new concern comes up during the campaign, we can revisit it at any time. Player comfort matters more than preserving a scene exactly as imagined. FINAL NOTE The point of this document is not to drain tension or mystery out of the game. It’s to make sure we can tell strange, funny, unsettling, and memorable stories together without stepping on each other in the process. If there’s anything you’d like added, removed, or clarified, let me know at any point before or during the campaign.
