About the adventure

Clockwerk Angel is a Steampunk Mystery set in the fictional and Hombrewed plane of Mezzia, a great big Ecumenopolis that embodies the entire plane. Clockwerk constructs dot the landscape, and steampunk tech is everywhere. Unique core mechanics will be detailed as they become relevant, but the campaign itself operates under normal 5e rules, as written from the 2014 edition of the game. I do not use 2024's ruleset. For every campaign that I run, I do a free session zero, where I go over Table Rules, expectations, answer questions, comments or concerns that any of my players may have before we begin, and discuss the ins and outs of character creation and stat allotment according to that specific campaign. This session is typically about an hour to an hour and a half. The tone of Clockwerk Mezzia is dark. An Aristocratic Oligarchy rules from the shadows, and political power is used and abused by those who think they own the city. Keep in mind that there will be heavy themes discussed within this campaign, but I do my best to do so in a tasteful and nonshock manner. I will leave you with a question, and hopefully it is interesting enough to partake. In the sprawling cityscape of Mezzia, A gargantuan clockwerk angel stands as a bastion of freedom and unity. With it's gaze overlooking the city, those who live within are filled with a sense of warmth and familiarity. Recently however, there are whispered rumors of the people having strange and unexplained nightmares, all centered around the city's clockwerk angel, which predates the city's construction. Along with these nightmares, strange, unexplained events follow. People are going missing. Clockwerk constructs patrol around integral parts of the city, becoming increasingly more agitated and violent. A question those who live in Mezzia are beginning to think but are too afraid to ask stirs in the air, as Mezzia becomes increasingly unsafe. Who, or what, resides within the clockwerk angel, and why are those few chosen to enter never seen again?

About me

"The journey is always the best part of an adventure Alizisah. You can't get so caught up in what happens after the journey ends, that you forget to appreciate the time you spent getting there." Greetings! I hope your D&D days are well, and filled with magic. The name's Penumbra. I've always loved telling stories. Weaving fantastical tales of swords and magic, of high stakes and villainous people that make you want to root for the heroes. I've been playing some manner of D&D for over ten years now, and I've been a DM for my friends (both local and nonlocal) for the better part of six years. I run a variety of campaigns, but I do have a specialty of sorts, A homebrew campaign that started from very humble beginnings. The campaign started from Matt Mercer's Frozen Sick module, in his Explorer's Guide to Wildemount sourcebook for D&D 5e. Since those humble beginnings though, through multiple iterations and many players, it has become something almost entirely separate from those early days, and I'm excited to share it with you all! I like the camaraderie that D&D brings to a given table, whether that be online, or in person. The power of storytelling transcends race, class and creed, and becomes something that everyone can just sit down and enjoy. Everyone who wants to play at my table is welcome, so long as they are kind and inclusive of those who will be playing beside them. When crafting a campaign, I lean more towards hard narrative hooks and challenging combat, preferring to see my players rise from humble beginnings to become legends. My goal at my table is always to tell a good story, have lots of laughs, and make my players feel the narrative weight of what they are going through. Tough choices, impossible situations, things that make the players really have to think through to figure out just who their characters are, and who they want to be when the journey is done. If the campaigns I have built aren't to your liking, I have several oneshots that might peak your interest, and I do my best to have something that fits for everyone, and if that isn't enough, I'm absolutely open to running a custom game with input from you, and work to craft a story with unique characters, maps, and storylines set within whatever kind of world you are looking to play. My price for any game I run is 25$ per person, whether that be something I already have made or something you request me to build. Regardless of what campaign you play, my sessions will be between 4-6 hours in length to give you what I consider to be a full experience per week. I hope that we can embark on a wonderful and storied journey through many different planes, characters, storylines and villains together, and that you leave my table with a wide grin and off to tell stories about what you experienced to those who care about you most. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see you in my games! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me here on startplaying, or over discord through private messaging. My discord handle is penumbrailagray. I hope to hear from you soon!

How Penumbra Ila Gray creates a safe table

Session Zero will go over all of my house rules, table etiquette, and character creation, alongside the kind of content that will be contained within my games. During session zero, players who would like to play should bring any concerns about content they don't want to see within my games, and we'll talk it over so that I can plan accordingly. If during a session something comes up that you wish to not see or be a part of, message me privately on discord and I will do my best to steer and orient the direction of the campaign away from the topic. After any given session, I like to stick around in chat for a half hour or so, and talk about how my players feel about the session, the campaign in general, things they liked, things they didn't, and what they would like to see from me in future sessions, whether that be gameplay related or character related. I'm always open for discussion, and I want to make sure that those who play at my table are taken care of.
