About Penumbra Ila Gray
"The journey is always the best part of an adventure Alizisah. You can't get so caught up in what happens after the journey ends, that you forget to appreciate the time you spent getting there." Greetings! I hope your D&D days are well, and filled with magic. The name's Penumbra. I've always loved telling stories. Weaving fantastical tales of swords and magic, of high stakes and villainous people that make you want to root for the heroes. I've been playing some manner of D&D for over ten years now, and I've been a DM for my friends (both local and nonlocal) for the better part of six years. I run a variety of campaigns, but I do have a specialty of sorts, A homebrew campaign that started from very humble beginnings. The campaign started from Matt Mercer's Frozen Sick module, in his Explorer's Guide to Wildemount sourcebook for D&D 5e. Since those humble beginnings though, through multiple iterations and many players, it has become something almost entirely separate from those early days, and I'm excited to share it with you all! I like the camaraderie that D&D brings to a given table, whether that be online, or in person. The power of storytelling transcends race, class and creed, and becomes something that everyone can just sit down and enjoy. Everyone who wants to play at my table is welcome, so long as they are kind and inclusive of those who will be playing beside them. When crafting a campaign, I lean more towards hard narrative hooks and challenging combat, preferring to see my players rise from humble beginnings to become legends. My goal at my table is always to tell a good story, have lots of laughs, and make my players feel the narrative weight of what they are going through. Tough choices, impossible situations, things that make the players really have to think through to figure out just who their characters are, and who they want to be when the journey is done. If the campaigns I have built aren't to your liking, I have several oneshots that might peak your interest, and I do my best to have something that fits for everyone, and if that isn't enough, I'm absolutely open to running a custom game with input from you, and work to craft a story with unique characters, maps, and storylines set within whatever kind of world you are looking to play. My price for any game I run is 25$ per person, whether that be something I already have made or something you request me to build. Regardless of what campaign you play, my sessions will be between 4-6 hours in length to give you what I consider to be a full experience per week. I hope that we can embark on a wonderful and storied journey through many different planes, characters, storylines and villains together, and that you leave my table with a wide grin and off to tell stories about what you experienced to those who care about you most. Thank you for your time, and I hope to see you in my games! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me here on startplaying, or over discord through private messaging. My discord handle is penumbrailagray. I hope to hear from you soon!

How Penumbra Ila Gray runs games
My games are different from most other DM's I know. I focus primarily on strong narrative first, utilizing skill checks to help discern things going on in the world. My combat tends to be on the more dire side of things, emphasizing the narrative elements and story beats before it, while maintaining a fair and balanced encounter. My npc's are complex, with a wide range of backgrounds that are just waiting to be explored by my players. There are NPC's to love, to hate, and to have mixed feelings about as you delve deeper into the stories I make. I utilize guest stars from time to time as well, making dynamic scenes that have wowed those I've run games for before. If you love complex plots, dynamic characters, powerful relics and an overwhelming mystery at the heart of everything, you've come to the right place. I love players coming to me with cool ideas, and talking about how to implement them into the game in an organic and fun way. The rule of cool is always present in my games, but in a way that makes it feel every bit earned. Impactful character decisions are always somewhere just around the corner, and I love hearing and giving flavorful descriptions as you trudge through the wilds of the world. Teamwork is always encouraged and rewarded, and part of the fun is working through difficult problems together. Character voices are welcomed, but never required or enforced. Comfort and collaboration will always come first for me, and anything I can do to facilitate that is something I'll do. All I want is to tell stories that people feel are alive, and that they can talk about for years afterwards.
