About the adventure

The land of Veskari suffers. A brutal winter unlike any other has smothered the land, and the long awaited spring never arrived. Six months later, in what was supposed to be late autumn, the land still has not thawed, the lakes remain solid, and each week brings another storm rolling mercilessly across the countryside. The situation is dire. With no harvest, and ships trapped in their frozen harbors, people and livestock alike face starvation. Thick snow clogs the roads, slowing trade and news between settlements to a crawl. One by one, villages are going quiet as the long dark of the next winter looms overhead. The land disobeys any druid's command for warmth. The wizards of Veskari struggle for an explanation. Clerics have begged the gods for reprieve. All to no avail. In desperation, the Grand Duchess of Veskari offers a life-changing amount of riches to anyone able to find the cause of the perpetual winter, and put an end to it. Gold. Land. Titles. Enough wealth that you will never want for anything ever again. One thing is certain: answers aren't waiting in the dimming warmth of the capital. You will have to travel beyond its walls, across vast frozen plains and snow-capped mountains. Stay on your toes, traveller, for the snow hides more than just the land.

About me

Hi! I'm Ryan (he/him), I'm 34 years old, and I've been playing and GMing TTRPGs for over a decade now. While I cut my teeth on D&D 5e and it remains my favorite, I've also made my way into other systems, including but not limited to: - Vampire: the Masquerade (V5 and V20) - Hunter: the Reckoning (H5) - Call of Cthulhu I'm a strong believer in the "rule of cool" and story over rules, and I make it my aim to make sure that all of my games are accessible and welcoming to everyone, especially LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC, and women. Above all, I know that we're all here to have fun, so that is my main priority in any game. I encourage any of my players to talk to me if something is not to their liking, and I will do my best to ensure we work out a solution. I look forward to playing with you!

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will start at Level 1, and we'll be using Point Buy or Standard Array (your choice) to determine stats. Characters will be created together as a group during Session 0, so bring a few character concepts to the table. All officially published Wizards of the Coast 5th Edition material is okay to use, with the exceptions of Spelljammer and Strixhaven. All Critical Role material is also okay to use. I do not allow homebrew or other 3rd party materials (Humblewood, Acquisitions Inc., Kobold Press, etc.), just for the sake of keeping everything balanced.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using Discord for voice chat, and Roll20 for dice rolls and maps. Please make sure you have an account with both of these services. Please have a decent, working microphone/headset. Please come to session zero with an idea of the type of character you would like to play. Bringing character art is highly encouraged, but not necessary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Are you new to Start Playing? What Ryan brings to the table

I will provide any pdfs of source books we may need, as well as documents about the lore of the world you'll be playing in. I can also provide you with a character token or art if you need it. I also enjoy doing character voices and weaving player characters' backstories into the game.
