About the adventure

You were never supposed to be here. One moment, you were living your normal life and the next, you were standing before a doorway into another reality. Beyond it waits a sprawling multiverse of worlds that feel strangely familiar: galactic civilizations, impossible ringworlds, fantasy kingdoms, ruined wastelands, neon megacities and some far stranger. Cypher: Worlds Between Worlds is a character-driven multiverse campaign inspired by iconic video games and genres including Mass Effect, Halo, Baldur's Gate, League of Legends, classic RPGs, survival games, sci-fi adventures, and much much more. These are original worlds built as love letters to the games we grew up with, packed with recognizable themes, playful nods, secrets, and surprises without simply replaying their stories. You'll begin as yourself or an avatar of yourself, then choose a Cypher character type that becomes your anchor as reality starts getting considerably less reasonable. Every world changes you. Skills, powers, knowledge, equipment, allies, and scars can follow you through the portals, meaning your character sheet becomes a record of everywhere you've been. Expect cinematic action, heavy roleplay, mysteries spanning multiple realities, recurring characters, strange combinations of powers, and plenty of opportunities to solve problems in ways I absolutely did not prepare for. New players are welcome! You do not need to know the system before joining. Please note: This is an original fan-inspired multiverse campaign and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the above referenced video game publishers.

Character creation

Creating your character

You'll begin the campaign playing yourself or an original avatar representing you. You never need to use your real name, appearance, history, or any personal information you're uncomfortable sharing. Characters begin using the core mechanics from the new Cypher rules: Might, Speed, Intellect, Pools, Edge, Effort, wounds, skills, and a character Type. Rather than asking you to learn the entire rulebook, I'll help you choose from a curated selection of Cypher Types that represent your character's permanent foundation. Your Type is the part of you that remains consistent no matter what reality you enter. From there, advancement works differently. Every world leaves something behind. Completing adventures can permanently unlock new skills, abilities, equipment, knowledge, or other benefits connected to that reality. A character who survives a galactic space-opera world might learn alien technology or develop a strange energy power. Another reality might teach magic, military tactics, cybernetics, survival techniques, or something nobody expected. Your character sheet will grow with the campaign and become a record of the worlds you've survived. Character creation will be handled with me before play over discord. No Cypher rulebook purchase or previous system experience is required.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, you'll need: • A free Discord account for voice, campaign communication, and between-session information. • Fantasy Grounds Unity installed. This is free on steam and Ill gladly help you get going if you get stuck. You do not need to purchase the Cypher rulebook or learn the rules beforehand. Rules will be taught during character creation and organically during play. Before your first session, I'll also send you the campaign information, character creation guide and Fantasy Grounds connection information.

What BarefootYeti brings to the table

My games focus on cinematic storytelling, memorable NPCs, character-driven choices, and making the world react to what the players actually do rather than forcing everyone down a predetermined path. This game with be heavy roleplaying with combat mixed in here and there. I'll provide the Fantasy Grounds campaign, maps, tokens, visual references, ambient music and sound where appropriate, custom encounters, NPC voices, campaign documentation, and all rules guidance required to play. This campaign strongly embraces creative problem solving and the Rule of Cool, while still using Cypher's core mechanics to keep outcomes meaningful. Clever use of abilities gained in previous worlds is not only allowed, it's one of the central ideas of the campaign.

Homebrew rules

Character advancement is heavily customized for the multiverse campaign. Instead of relying entirely on standard Cypher advancement, characters earn permanent World Skills and World Abilities through the realities they visit. These abilities remain available when traveling into future worlds and are designed around Cypher's existing Pool, Effort, action, and difficulty mechanics. Some standard Cypher abilities, advancement rules, equipment, Foci, and other subsystems may be modified, replaced, or reskinned to support the campaign. Any major mechanical changes will be explained before they affect your character. You will never be expected to discover an important house rule halfway through an encounter.

How BarefootYeti creates a safe table

We’ll have a brief Session 0 to establish the tone of the campaign, table expectations, and any major boundaries before we begin. Beyond that, I keep things straightforward. We are here to play a game and have a good time. Life happens, and if you need to step away, leave early, skip a scene, or miss a session, that is completely fine. Treat the other players with respect, communicate like adults, and if something genuinely becomes an issue, message me privately and I’ll handle it without making a production out of it.
