About the adventure
Welcome to Brackenfell Academy, the realm’s most prestigious adventuring school, where students study martial arts, wild magic, monster theory, and “Not Exploding 101.” It's a place where magical mishaps are part of the curriculum, and the faculty has way too many secrets. Expect enchanted dorms, cursed coursework, magical misfires, and the occasional unsupervised trip to the Undercampus. Whether you're sword-swinging through fieldwork or just trying to survive finals, you'll discover that friendship might be your most powerful tool. Right after Fireball, of course. This is a character-driven fantasy campaign that blends absurd academic chaos with real emotional growth. Themes include found family, learning from failure, and discovering who you are when everything goes hilariously wrong. We’ll be playing with Daggerheart, a collaborative, narrative-first system perfect for messy duels, heartfelt scenes, and creative problem solving. No prior experience is needed - just bring a character idea, some chaotic energy, and a healthy respect for sentient cleaning supplies. I wrote and developed this campaign frame (which is available on DriveThruRPG), and I can't wait to experime-...tell this story with you! This will be a 1-on-1 campaign, supported by NPCs we'll build together, based on your character. The multiple seats are just to allow for multiple players. If you'd like to join as a group, please send me a message.

Creating your character
We’ll create characters together, using Demiplane’s official Daggerheart character tools. This will be a collaborative process where we explore your characters’ backstories, connections, and roles within the world we’re building together. We’ll start at level 1, using the official core Daggerheart rules. Whether you’re a first-time player or a seasoned storyteller, I’ll guide you through the process and help ensure your character fits both the mechanics and the tone of the game. No outside materials are needed, just bring your ideas, curiosity, and a willingness to shape the story alongside the rest of the group.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
0. Be prepared to post at least once per day. While the pace of the game will be dictated by the group, by default the assumption will be one post per day to start. 1. Create a free Demiplane account – We’ll be using it for character creation and reference. 2. Join the campaign Discord – This is where we’ll chat, coordinate sessions, and share updates. 3. Say hello! – You’re welcome to introduce yourself and chat with fellow players before we begin. 4. Join "Session Zero" – We’ll build characters, talk tone, set boundaries, and begin shaping the world we’ll explore together. 5. One-On-One Chat - After "Session 0," I'll chat with each player individually, learning more about them and their character.
What Todd brings to the table
I provide a collaborative, character-driven experience where story comes first and players help shape the world we’re exploring. My background in improv means I focus on yes-and storytelling, building on your choices, backstories, and bold ideas to create something none of us could predict alone. You can expect: - Emotionally rich storytelling that evolves from character choices and relationships - A story-focused tone. Daggerheart is built for narrative play, and I embrace the Rule of Cool when it serves the moment - Immersive roleplay - Occasional combat that feels meaningful, cinematic, and character-relevant; not a constant grind - A safe, inclusive table where all players are encouraged to contribute Ultimately, my goal is to help everyone feel like a co-author of an unfolding tale. If you enjoy character growth, meaningful choices, strange wonders, and shared surprises, you’ll feel right at home.
Homebrew rules
This campaign uses a few light-touch homebrew approaches to support storytelling and player creativity: - Flashbacks & Character Spotlights: Players can introduce flashbacks or ask for character-driven moments to flesh out their backstory mid-session. - Collaborative Worldbuilding: Players may help define parts of the world, NPCs, or factions as we play. - Flexible Downtime: We’ll handle downtime in a narrative way - your character’s personal goals matter and will shape the world. - No mechanical tweaks to core Daggerheart rules unless we all agree it serves the table better. The goal is to keep things smooth, flexible, and full of story.

Safety
How Todd creates a safe table
Player safety and comfort are core to how I run games. We’ll begin with a Session Zero where we’ll discuss tone, themes, expectations, and the kinds of stories everyone wants to tell and which ones we don’t. I use the following safety tools: - Lines and Veils document, shared before Session Zero, where players can anonymously or openly mark content they’d like excluded or handled with care. - X cards, used digitally (via chat or in-game tools) so players can flag discomfort in real time, no questions asked. - Open-door policy: Players can step away at any time without needing to explain. - Aftercare check-ins: At the end of each session, I’ll check in briefly with players to make sure everyone’s feeling good, either in group chat or one-on-one if preferred. The goal is to create a respectful, creative space where everyone feels empowered to contribute, connect, and have fun, without pressure or discomfort.
