About the adventure

What appeared to be a simple escort job brought you to the down of Phandalin, but it soon becomes clear that something far more dangerous is unfolding. Missing travellers, hostile enemies and forgotten ruins lead you towards a threat growing beneath the surface. New players are very welcome, and no previous Dungeons & Dragons experience is required.

About me

Hi, I’m Will. A UK-based GM. I’ve been running TTRPGs for the past few years with friends, with a particular focus on Dungeons & Dragons. My games blend tactical combat and meaningful player choices, with plenty of room for humour and memorable character moments along the way. By day, I work in tech, and I use that background to create polished online sessions using Foundry VTT, atmospheric audio, and a range of self-hosted tools designed to keep games immersive and running smoothly. I primarily run published adventures, but I treat them as frameworks rather than rigid scripts. I adapt encounters, NPCs, and story details around the party while keeping the campaign coherent and recognisable. My aim is to provide a welcoming, reliable table where players can invest in their characters and help shape the story.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before the first session. I am happy to work with you to help you create your character and answer any questions you may have. We will use DNDBeyond to create characters where you will have access to all of my sourcebooks through my Master Tier subscription. Stats will be allocated on either a standard array or point buy basis.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A free DNDBeyond account will be required to create your character and join the campaign, and a free Discord account will be needed to join voice chat. No cameras required, but a decent headset/microphone preferred. I host my games through my FoundryVTT server that runs in your browser. No software or downloads required. Foundry is not compatible with screens below 1366x768, so mobile phones will not be able to access the server.

What RiskyDice brings to the table

Privately hosted FoundryVTT server as a game interface, including digital dice, maps, character tokens, animation effects for abilities/spells and more. Discord server for voice chat, including music bots for ambience and atmosphere. A privately hosted website where you will be able to read over session recaps and important information you uncover along the way.

Homebrew rules

Bonus action potions - You can drink a potion as a bonus action and roll for the healing, or use a full action and receive maximum healing. Maximum Crits - Rolling a natural 20 on an attack roll does not give you double dice rolls. instead, you will give/take the maximum possible damage for that attack, plus your regular damage roll. Flanking rules - +2 to attack rolls when you are positioned on opposite sides of an enemy with an ally.

How RiskyDice creates a safe table
