About the adventure

In the world of Anangnibi (pronounced Ah-nahng-nee-bee) there looms a threat to the local towns and villages outside of a major port city called Agonan Mizhakwad (pronounced Ah-goh-nahn Meez-hahk-wahd). Reports of attacks have become more frequent and many have claimed to see a flying creature up within the mountains. Maps indicate that there is an old fort that has been empty for quite some time in the area. The local authorities have put up a reward for heroes to go and investigate the area and find out what has been happening. You are the adventurers fit for the job. You all will have your own reasons for taking it, but they may not necessarily be the same. Consider some options: A local Legend - You have heard tales of an old dwarven outpost in the mountains; perhaps it has treasure within, or at the very least things worth plundering to sell back in town. A Call to Arms - Your character has a strong sense of duty to protect others and simply wishes to put an end to all the raids once and for all. A Reward of a Full Coin Purse - You, like many an adventurer, are simply looking for a job to make some money. Or perhaps you may have your own idea? If so, I should very much like to hear it! Warning: This is a difficult and deadly game with a deadly dungeon; your characters will have a high chance of dying. If things begin to get bad (Like over half your party is dead or dying), your party will always have the option of retreating to live another day. That being said, no shame in going out in a blaze of glory.

About me

Hello everyone! My name is Alex, and you can call me Panda if you would like. I’ve been a DM for 7 years. I am called by many titles: Your Mythmaker, The Duke of Doom, Weaver of Woe and Whimzy, Bringer of Consequences. But, for you, your Dungeon Master will suffice. I am a storyteller with a myriad of talents that I like to use in my games. I’m an artist, illustrator, animator, voice actor, and writer, just to name a few. I like to run my games with theatrical flair and immersion. I use background music, sound effects, and narrate pre-written descriptions to set the scene, invoking all 5 senses as often as I can. I utilize my voice acting abilities to add richness to NPC’s. I also focus on character narrative and development, and making the player feel like they are part of the world. My table is a stage for my players to fully play and develop their characters. Character choices shape the outcome of events and change the world around them. I like to take the approach where the player will learn more about the lore of the world and the background narrative as they explore. If the characters stumble upon something lore significant, I allow them to roll to see if they know anything about what they find. Pieces are given to players to form their own connections about histories and figures from the past, and quests are provided should the player want to dive deeper. I am friendly with the following communities: LGBTQ+, Neurodivergent, Disabled, Furry Fandom.

Character creation

Creating your character

Before the game I will discuss your character with you as a one-on-one, this can start first via text. I would then like to do a 30 minute call with you via Discord to work out some details about your character. Your character will be level 5, and you can use the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. If there are any 3rd party books or materials you are interested in using, I will be happy to review them with you. Character sheets will be created via Roll20. For Species/Races, I have some additional homebrew options.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This is an entirely virtual game, so you will need the following: A Discord account so that I can invite you to join the session Voice Call on my Discord server. A Roll20 account so that I can invite you to the game, it will be played on Roll20. A working headset/mic.

What Alex brings to the table

This game will have the following: Descriptive narration Ambient soundscape Background music A full map As part of the narration and gameplay, I will be using sounds to help indicate to the player that something is happening. Please inform me if you require additional accommodation due to having auditory issues. Roleplay is the focus of my games and will be encouraged at all times. If you are new to roleplay, that is perfectly fine; just let me know, and I will do everything I can to help you develop your roleplaying skills. I strike a balance between Rules as Written and the rule of cool. Combat for this dungeon will be intense when it happens. The game will take place in my homebrew setting, but it will not be the focus of the adventure. General information will be provided to you as needed for the context of this short campaign. I will also be able to import options onto your digital character sheet for you; I can add features from classes, species, spells, items, and feats. Please bear in mind, once again, this is a difficult and deadly game with a deadly dungeon; your characters will have a high chance of dying. If things begin to get bad (Like over half your party is dead or dying), your party will always have the option of retreating to live another day. That being said, no shame in going out in a blaze of glory.

Homebrew rules

Secret Death Rolls: The DM will roll your death saving throws for you in secret. The DM will not share the result until either the character is stabilized or if the character is dead. This is to help add tension during play, especially in combat. If you are uncomfortable with not having control over your own die roll, then please bring it up to your DM, upon agreement you will then be able to secretly roll the death saves so that only the DM can see them. Once this is done, you should not share the results or give any indication if it was a success or a failure through any means. Keeping it secret will help make the situation feel more pressing, and lead to more exhilarating moments. Potion power: Taking a full action to drink a healing potion will result in receiving the maximum healing. Using a bonus action, you would roll the required die as normal to receive healing.

How Alex creates a safe table

Vocally say “Time out” when you feel things are getting too overwhelming for you. “Be Kind Rewind” if you need to retcon and edit the last part of the story. “Bio Break/Back” in chat for bathroom, snacks, or phone calls Please stay muted unless speaking to cut down on background noise. “Above table/In character” to differentiate between asking something in or out of character. Lines and Veils Lines: Things that will NOT be present in our game Graphic depictions of Sexual Assault. Veils: Things that we will NOT be going into explicit detail about: Sex (In the incredibly unlikely event that it happens, we fade to black and roll performance).
