About the adventure

Frozen Sick is a short D&D 5e adventure set in the frozen wastes of Eiselcross. When a mysterious illness begins turning the people of Palebank Village into ice, your party must uncover its source and journey into the frozen north to find a cure. This is a small, character-focused game for up to four players, with a mix of roleplay, investigation, exploration and combat. No Critical Role or Wildemount knowledge is required, and new players are welcome! You'll start at level 1 and reach level 3 as you uncover the secrets buried beneath the ice. Expect dangerous wilderness, strange magic, ancient ruins and plenty of things that probably should have stayed frozen. The adventure will run for approximately 5–7 weekly sessions, making it a great choice if you want a complete D&D adventure without committing to a long-term campaign.

About me

I’ve been playing tabletop RPGs since 2019 and running games since 2021, both online and in person. Outside of TTRPGs, I’ve worked as a software developer for the past four years, and I’m also a big reader. A lot of the books I love influence the way I run games, especially when it comes to character relationships, emotional moments, and that sense of being completely swept up in a story. What I love most about tabletop RPGs is the chance to roleplay, tell stories with other people, and create memorable moments together. I especially enjoy character interaction and romance in storytelling, and one of my biggest goals as a GM is to create D&D stories that capture some of the same feelings that my favourite books do. Most of my experience is with D&D 5e, both as a player and as a GM, and I’m very comfortable running games online using Roll20, Discord, and D&D Beyond. I aim to create welcoming, inclusive, and engaging games for both newer and more experienced players, with a balance of roleplay, exploration, combat, and character-driven moments. I also play Vampire: The Masquerade and would love to run it in the future. I also have two cats, who are very supportive of my tabletop hobby from a distance.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at Level 1 using the 2024 D&D 5e rules. You can choose any species available to you, and I'm happy to work with a wide range of character concepts. I just ask that you run your character concept and any unusual choices past me before finalising your character, so I can make sure everything fits the adventure and the group. For ability scores, you can either roll your stats during Session 0 or use the Standard Array, whichever you prefer. If you're new to character creation, don't worry! I'm happy to help you build your character and answer any questions before we begin.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord - please have a Discord account and a working microphone. You'll receive an invite to my Discord server before the game. Roll20 - you'll need a free Roll20 account so we can use the virtual tabletop for maps, character sheets and gameplay. You don't need any previous experience with Roll20 or D&D. I'll help you get everything set up before we begin!

What Drew brings to the table

I'll provide everything you need to enjoy the adventure without having to worry about figuring everything out yourself. My GMing style is relaxed, collaborative and character-focused, with a good balance of roleplay, exploration and combat. I like to give players room to be creative and will happily embrace the Rule of Cool when it makes sense for the story, while still keeping the game fair and consistent. I'll provide the virtual tabletop, maps and tokens needed for the adventure, as well as help with character creation and learning the rules if you're new to D&D. I also use ambient music and sound effects where appropriate to help set the mood, and I'll do character voices when it feels right for the NPC. Most importantly, I want everyone to feel comfortable getting involved. There is no pressure to be an experienced roleplayer or know every rule - I'll guide you through things and make sure everyone gets their chance to shine.

Safety

How Drew creates a safe table

Player comfort is really important to me, especially when running adventures that can include horror, illness and character death. We'll go over boundaries and expectations during Session 0, including any Lines and Veils that players would like me to be aware of. I'll also provide a way for players to communicate privately with me if something comes up that they'd rather not discuss in front of the group. During the game, players can pause or step away from a scene at any time if they're uncomfortable. You never need to justify using a safety tool or tell the group why something isn't okay for you. I'll check in with the group throughout the campaign, particularly after heavier or more intense scenes, and I'm always happy to adjust or fade to black when needed. My goal is to create a game where we can enjoy the darker themes of the adventure while making sure everyone feels respected, comfortable and able to have fun.
