About the adventure

Something sinister lurks beneath Neverwinter. A dead militiaman. A desiccated eyeball. Whispers of a mysterious cult. What evil festers in the bowels of the city? Assemble your party and get ready to enter the catacombs of Neverwinter in this prelude to Vecna: Eve of Ruin. The return of one of D&D's greatest villains begins here! A one-shot introductory adventure to a multiverse-spanning campaign, great for new and experienced players alike! Whether you're an experienced adventurer, completely new to Dungeons & Dragons, or just curious about trying a play-by-post game, you're in the right place. This game is also meant to be an easy introduction to play-by-post. I'll explain the rules as they come up, help everyone get comfortable with the format, and make sure no one gets left behind. You don't need to know the rules, learning together is part of the experience. Since play-by-post moves at a relaxed pace, you'll have plenty of time to think about what your character wants to do and enjoy the story as it unfolds. If you're looking for a welcoming game that, tactical combat, exploration, and collaborative storytelling, I'd love to have you at the table. Ai Disclaimer: I do use Ai generated art in my campaigns.

About me

I started my TTRPG journey when I was a kid. I played for a few years and slowly fell out of it. In recent years, my interest has piqued and I am incredibly excited to be back into the hobby with a revitalized, hyperfixation, borderline obsession, level of investement and enjoyment. I can't get enough! I started DMing for family and friends in live sessions as well as playing in a few live campaigns. I've played countless one-shots and enjoy Play By Post every other minute that I can squeeze in some D&D! I look forward to continuing this journey on StartPlaying while getting to know others who enjoy TTRPGs!

Character creation

Creating your character

- For this adventure, characters will be level 3 - Use 2024 options during character creation. If no 2024 update exists, the 2014 version is allowed. - Please use officially published material. Any third party or homebrew should be discussed with me. - You can roll up to 3 times for stats using Avrae. If none of the three sets speak to you, you may use a traditional method like Point Buy or Standard Array. - Use the suggested items or gold based starting equipment. You may spend your currency in the Add Items dropdown. Adjust your coinage manually as you add or remove items. - Use non-legacy item options during character creation. If no non-legacy item exists, the legacy version is allowed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Discord will be our tool for communication and telling our story. - D&D Beyond will be the primary tool used for creating character sheets. - We will be using Owlbear Rodeo for combat maps. Please make sure you have created a free account before the start of your first session. - We will be using Avrae for our rolls, checks, and combat! - Optionally, you may also use Tupperbox to maintain clarity and immersion during storytelling. - If you need help with any of these tools, please reach out!

What sAINTJAK brings to the table

- As the DM, I will post a minimum of 1-2 times per day. - As the player, you are expected to post once per day or we will move the story forward. - During combat additional posts will be expected to, at a minimum, complete your initiative turn. - If you will be unavailable for longer than 24 hours, please notify me so we can keep the story moving for others.

Homebrew rules

- Flanking: Advantage was removed in 2024 but we will add +2 to your attack roll. - Potion of Healing: To provide improved potion use! Potions can be used as an Action to recover the maximum number of health points or used as a Bonus Action to roll for it. - Perkins Crit: To prevent underwhelming Crits! Calculate the max number that you could roll on the dice. Roll your damage as usual and add the two totals together! (This is automatically handled in my Avrae settings.) - Heroic Slide: To help prevent turns of movement alone, without wasting an action to Dash, if you are just out of reach of your objective! On your turn, you can move your entire movement speed and slide an extra 5 ft. if it would allow you to perform an action to keep the game moving. For example; enter a weapon or spells' attack range, interact with an object, or avoid a negative effect.
