About the adventure
Dearest Reader, After due consideration, it is with our utmost pleasure to inform you of your acceptance into the school of your choosing from among our list of Verbena League Academies. At the tip of your wand now lies an arcane curriculum, a sorcerous student body, illusory alumni and a Greater Staff of Teaching that can be opposed by no other league of magical schools in this realm! Now, with over a thousand years of excellence in educational oversight under our robes, the world is beginning to rapidly change around us. Technology, societal trends and new discoveries have shaken up the Mundane and Magical worlds alike in the last 50 years. There are fewer and fewer casters being born, and the ones who are, find their magics increasingly informed and influenced by the modern zeitgeist. So now, more than ever, mages are needed to preserve the traditions of our craft, to evolve our craft alongside the modern culture, and to keep our craft alive in the world. All rooming and accommodations for all species of caster and familiar alike will be provided. Primary tuition has been paid in full by the Verbena League Research Fund, although secondary tuition may vary depending on the chosen school. Admission to the tutelary program does not preclude potential employment or private research conducted with your chosen school; Please inquire with The Verbena League Standards Consortium about employment, and the Fellowship and Funding Council regarding private research. Best Regards; The Verbena League Admission Committee

About me
I’m CIS, white, male, neurodivergent, pansexual-panromantic and the type of person who respects it if you need to know those things about me before we play. I gotchu. I’ve been running games for about 15 years now, I spend so much time on it that I can’t justify it financially, anymore, without charging. Over time I’ve gotten very improvisational, preferring to leap right into session zero and let the character discussion fuel my plans. I prefer play by post, and I like my familiar systems, but I’m charging for this, I’m aware of my limits and capabilities, and I’m very particular, so you can expect the utmost effort at making this experience right for you; Any system you want I can learn. This is my safe space, and I aim to share that safety with everyone involved; Lines and veils will be anonymous and unchallenged. Prejudice and abuse will not be tolerated, repeat offenders and their icky money will be kicked out and not invited back.

Creating your character
A guided session 0 will take place for the first month, during which we will collaboratively create the school and your characters. You need not read ahead this section if you’d like to wait to create characters together. In general, I only focus on the mechanical elements of each of these choices, what they fictionally represent can be almost anything. You will create a two-part casting implement whose parts each add a +1 bonus to a given stat while casting. Typically this is a wand, and the parts are the wood and the core of the wand. You will create a flying implement comprised of a mechanical benefit of your choosing from the list on page 25. Typically this is a brand-name broom. You will choose a familiar which represents a particular aspect of your personality. This can be any earthly animal species extinct or otherwise, or any of the following: Dragon, unicorn, Pegasus, fairy, construct/golem. Let me know if you’re looking to deviate, we can talk. You will choose a trope from appendix A as a basis for your character sheet. Either take the trope as is and fill it out, or rename it, reassign the dice, pick an age, two strengths and two flaws from appendix B and C. Finally, we’ll add finishing touches to the characters: Full names, motivations, fears, what’s in your school bag, and we’ll answer or create two trope-specific questions.

What Jeremy brings to the table
An organized Discord server, a dice rolling bot, and nearly two decades of experience running games much crunchier than this one!
Homebrew rules
At your discretion, create a spellbook full of spells as part of your backstory. Name them, describe them, use the tables on pages 54 and 55 to stat the spells (be honest with your characters experience!) and sort them into categories based on your stats. I will take time to read over and approve the grimoires I’m given.

How Jeremy creates a safe table
Lines and Veils will be discussed at the earliest possible convenience, and has to be completed before session 0 is started. I don’t strive for a game with mature content, but I don’t shy away from it either; The content warnings aren’t guaranteed or even likely, they’re just the boundaries I’m setting up.
