About the adventure

Have you heard? It's that time of the year again! Crowds gather in front of the public scrying devices to witness the spectacle, betting houses experience their annual boom, and Alasia's students once again become the number one topic of conversation in the cities of the Star Elves! For it is time for the Grand Finals, the magical graduation examinations of the Magna Academia Astrae! You're one of the finest aspiring wizards and clerics of Chalzedon, and now it is up to you to prove your skills to the kingdom and successfully complete your studies! Students from all across Chalzedon apply for a place at Alasia's renowed academy for wizardry and cleric teachings. Only a select few can secure a seat in its pristine classrooms, and even fewer make it into the so-called Grand Years, the most demanding years of study before graduating as a specialist in their craft. And that graduation must be earned through sweat and tears! Every year, Alasia's government turns the Grand Finals into a public spectacle for all to witness. The examinations include complex tournaments and challenges, ranging from simple written tests to conquering a tricky dungeon and surviving bloodthirsty arena battles. And this year, you are one of the students who must undergo these trials in order to earn your graduation! But this year comes with a special twist, for the Circle of Archmages itself is taking part in the design of your challenge. Yet extraordinary guests tend to attract curious threats… Create your own cleric or wizard (multiclassing allowed) and throw yourself into the exotic chaos of the examinations! Will you be able to impress the elven crown prince Cinnel and former human king Lemony with your skills? From which of Chalcedon's six kingdoms do you hail? What motivation led you to the academy of the Star Elves? Prove yourself in a unique setting and overcome challenges reminiscent of a non-lethal version of Harry Potter's Triwizard Tournament mixed with The Hunger Games – after all, the students are meant to prove themselves and have fun, not die during their final examinations!

About me

It's beautiful how people all across the world can connect and be moved through creative crafts - storytelling being one of them. Many of us have experienced being part of a crowd in awe, watching a touching moment unfold on a cinema screen. Many of us have found comfort in music or shows. Many of us enjoy the stories in games or movies. In TTRPGs, we craft our own unique stories. We create memories, we are the heroes of our own adventures. We're not just the audience but active participants, contributing to something that fascinates, inspires and moves us and our companions! The first time I played D&D was in 2020 and in early 2023, I started GMing my first homebrew campaign. I enjoy both: exploring the worlds my GMs create and giving others the opportunity to experience their own adventures. Customizing campaigns and integrating everyone's individual backstories into the adventure is essential to me. That's what I love most about D&D: creating stories together and making unforgettable memories. 💙 I hope to roll dice with you in the future and to be the narrator of your next adventure!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen either prior or during Session 0. The character sheets will be made on D&D Beyond. Upon joining the game, you will be given access to all player resources, including the setting lore, additional character information and backstory forms. Since this is a mini-campaign, backstories can't be incorporated in too much detail. To make up for that, many of the questions in the form focus on the student's (player character) life at the Academy. Character Creation · Basics - Starting level: 10 - You start with 1x extra Feat of your choice! - DnD 5e/2014 Rules - Point Buy - Milestone Level-Up - Fixed Hit Points - Ignore Inventory Weight - Optional Class Features, Customize Your Origin allowed - All Feats and Silvery Barbs allowed - No Multiclass Requirements - Multiclassing allowed Character Creation · Important Info - At least 1x level of wizard or 1x level of cleric is required - Available Species in this setting: Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Kobold, Half-Elf, Halfling, Half-Orc, Human, Tiefling, Changeling, Fairy, all the animal species (e.g. Tabaxi, Lizardfolk), Satyr, Centaur - Available Cleric Domains in this setting: all Domains with exceptions of Grave, Death and Trickery - Available Wizard Arcane Traditions in this setting: all Arcane Traditions with exception of School of Necromancy Adventure Background: You'll be playing a student in their final Grand Year! Hence, your character either belongs to the Collegium Magiae, the Academy of Wizardry, and the Collegium Credentium, the Clerical Academy. It's fully up to you to decide from which kingdom they're from, and whether they've also been to the Magna Academia Astrae's Secondary School or even the Elementary School.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please make sure you have a good microphone and a stable internet connection. A webcam is optional, but not necessary. Be sure to sign up on D&D Beyond before Session 0. A Discord account is required, as we will be using both FoundryVTT and Discord for the game. Application: When you apply for one of my tables, please include a short introduction note in which you tell me, for example, why you chose to apply for this table, about your playstyle, your ideas and what you enjoy most in D&D! This helps me get a first impression and determine if this table is a good fit! :)

What Jen brings to the table

— Mini-Campaign • Weekly — max. 8-12 Sessions + text RP channels (optional use) — Backstories — I will do my best to incorporate each character's backstory into the campaign, either by connecting it to the main plot or by adding unique storylines that align with the campaign's setting and the party's motivations. Whether you prefer sharing rough ideas or writing detailed backstories, I will take the time to review your concepts carefully. Together, we will figure out what works best and discuss your goals and hopes for your character! — Homebrew — Regardless of the campaign we are playing, please be aware that I will make minor to major adjustments to the overall adventure. Most of these customizations are intended to make the experience smoother and more unique. I love adding new missions and side quests, often dedicated to a player character's background. I also enjoy creating challenges for the party to strengthen their bond and provide additional opportunities for character growth. — Voice Acting — I have participated in multiple acting workshops and classes, where I learned from professional voice actors and actresses. Giving the NPCs you encounter their own unique voices is one of my greatest joys! — Balance and Fairness — It is very important to me to consider each player's wishes and create a campaign where everyone's individual preferences are equally valued. The campaign will be shaped by the feedback and preferences shared by the players, ensuring that everyone has their moment to shine.

Homebrew rules

- Every player begins a session with 1x Inspiration they can spend during that session - Players, who contribute to the session recap, will gain an additional Inspiration they can spend during that session - Consuming potions or edibles can be an Action or a Bonus Action - No disadvantage on ranged attacks when an enemy is within 5 feet of you Stowing a weapon and drawing a new one counts as one free object interaction, and does not require an additional Use an Object · Action Concentration: A spellcaster who is concentrating on a spell only makes one CON save per round (when they take damage for the first time in a round.) = Should the spellcaster get hit by multiple attacks in a round, they need not make CON saves each time. Only the first time they get hit. - Flanking applies when positioning two allies within 5 feet of an enemy on opposite sides. When two allies are on opposite sides or corners of an enemy's space, they gain advantage on all melee attack rolls against the enemy. - Lethal / Non-lethal: Melee/ranged / weapon/spell attacks can all be lethal or non-lethal. More homebrew rules can be viewed on the Discord server upon joining!

Safety

How Jen creates a safe table

During Session 0, players will be carefully introduced to the safety tools. A consent form will also be provided to fill out. I'll explain the contents of the consent form and answer any questions. We'll take the time to discuss what everyone expects from the campaign, and I'll warn players about any sensitive topics the adventure book might address. If you join the campaign later on, I'll make sure to contact you and provide all necessary information and resources before you play your first session with me!
