About the adventure
Welcome to a journey that will take you from one of the holiest cities in the Forgotten Realms to the fiery plains of Hell! This game includes a Session Zero and a human-made custom character portrait drawn by yours truly! After witnessing a catastrophe, you'll find yourself a protector of the few survivors seeking refuge in Baldur's Gate. Once in the great city, you find not all is as it seems and become embroiled in a conspiracy that goes all the way to the top. Solve the mystery of Elturel's doom and follow the clues down to Hell. On the plains of Avernus, you can ride an infernal war machine and seek battle with the anarchist warlords, seek riches and power in the ageless ruins, deal in the backstabbing politics of Hell, uncover the secret history of heroes of old, and even find yourself on the front lines of the eternal battle against demons in The Blood War. This campaign is a deeply modified, character-driven epic specifically tailored to your character's background and moral journey. Whether you are an elite Hellrider knight bound by the Creed Resolute, a divinely inspired warrior of the Order of the Companion, or a scrappy citizen of the infamous Baldur's Gate outrunning your past, your personal choices will define the fate of your soul.

About me
Hello, I'm Jonesy! I've been playing and running games for 13 years! I began with Pathfinder 1e and moved onto 5e around 2019 when The Adventure Zone became popular, but I've played other systems and tried out to see what I like and don't like, and have gathered bits and tricks to become the best Dungeon Master I can be. I'm an artist and writer, and I've found that the creative freedom and avenue of emotional storytelling you find in TTRPGs is like nothing else. There's something so special about creating a world together and filling it with memorable characters that we grow so attached to. I love telling stories and creating memorable moments for myself and my players that we still reminisce about years later. I am a transgender man, and so I am committed to creating an inclusive, LGBTQ+ friendly space where all players feel safe, respected, and welcome. I make sure that players' individual needs are respected and accommodated, including those of neurodivergent players. This includes a thorough Session 0, Safety Tools, and having an End-of-Session Wrap Up. I also use Discord to keep communication open. As an artist, I strive to keep my games and the art used in them AI-free. I support small artists for things I can not make myself, and for everything else, I love to make original art! I almost always make character portraits for players and important NPCs. I currently use Clip Studio Paint and a Wacom tablet to make my art.

Creating your character
We will have a Session Zero that will give you access to optional Background options that can tie your character directly into the main plot. We will also have time during Session Zero to make character sheets, brainstorm backstories, and begin making custom artwork for your character. So you won't need anything ready before Session Zero, but if you do have an idea in mind, it's most important to be certain your character has at least one connection to the city of Elturel and be invested in saving it. I use DnDBeyond for character sheets, host the game on Roll20, and use Discord for communication. We begin at level 2 unless we decide differently in Session Zero! Any official books for 2014 are available options. Homebrew and 2024 rules need DM approval.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please make sure you have Discord, Roll20, and DnDBeyond. I will have a Discord server available for you to join. And start getting references for custom artwork I can make for your character! :)
What Jonesy brings to the table
I create custom artwork for each player of a portrait of their character! I also provide unique homemade artwork for most major NPCs. If I don't make my own artwork for an NPC I will use WOTC official artwork. I absolutely detest AI-generated art in any form, and I will not have it in my games at all. I do voice acting, make playlists, and support artists on Patreon for unique and colorful maps for us to use. I keep a tidy Roll20 where you can reference characters, locations, art, and clues at any time. I stick to Rules as Written as much as possible with some homebrew to mix it up, and I love running exciting theatrical combat!
Homebrew rules
I will go over my rules more in depth in Session Zero, but my rules are to make the game more fun and streamlined, not make things more complicated. Here's my favorite House Rule: Bonus action healing potion during combat- or you can take your entire action to drink a healing potion to get full healing!

How Jonesy creates a safe table
We go over themes and content warnings found in the Campaign in Session Zero. I use Lines and Veils and X Cards as well. At the end of each session, I also lead a Wrap-Up debrief where we get to talk about our favorite moments, and I can answer comments, questions, concerns, or clarifications!
